Virgin have announced their intention to develop a games console for release within the next 2 years. Richard Branson, addressing a stunned press conference in Croydon this morning, stated: "It's a market that we've been looking at for the last couple of years, and we've decided to give it a go. How hard can it be?"

The new console is being developed here in the UK, under the working title of the 'Hymen'. Specifications have not been released, but Branson mentioned "5th generation" and "psychadelic processor engines" in the same sentence when he talked about it.

Games developers are said to be very interested in working with the Virgin console. Hal Buchinauser, of EA, said: "There's not enough virgins in our industry, we'd like to get our hands on one and see what we can make it do." Nimura Kochi from Namco stated: "Great! The Virgin brand is very strong, we at Namco are very excited about working with the Hymen, the possibilities for the psychadelic processor engine are mind-blowing, and I'm sure that we can develop a game with Japanese schoolgirls in it before the end of the year. Perhaps a pillow-fight 'em up."

Bill Gates was not available for comment, apparently he was crying in the toilets.

And would anyone like to hazard a guess at the value of a 'used' console on the 2nd hand market?

Will it be possible to chip this new console, or if I try am I more likely to break the hymen?
