The Xbox video game system is on a roll. Microsoft's Xbox has posted a stunning sales increase of approximately 131 percent in the United States in the first two months following the $100 price cut in back in May.

In addition, “Project Gotham Racing™” from Microsoft® Games Studios and “Dead or Alive 3™” from Tecmo each have sold more than a million units world-wide. According to the International Development Group, this makes Xbox the first video game system ever to have three million-unit-selling launch titles after just eight months on the market. This is something Sony didn't even manage.

Since the launch of the console in November 2001, the award-winning line-up of software for Xbox has reached a number of key sales milestones. Xbox has sold more than 10 million units of software in the first eight months the console has been on the market in the United States. That’s the most software ever sold for a new video game system in the United States in the same period of time. Last week, Microsoft Corp. reported that 20 million units of Xbox games were sold world-wide in its past fiscal year.

Although all three major game console manufacturers announced price cuts in May, Xbox has had the largest percentage gains with sales having spiked approximately 131 percent in the United States in the two months since the price cut.

On the software side, two exclusive Xbox launch titles — “Project Gotham Racing” from Microsoft Game Studios and “Dead or Alive 3” from Tecmo — have topped the 1 million mark in world-wide sales. Earlier this year, another blockbuster Xbox launch title, “HaloÔ: Combat Evolved,” also from Microsoft Game Studios, became the first million-unit seller for Xbox.

Xbox is now the first console to ever achieve world-wide sales of more than 1 million units on three different launch titles in less than eight months on the market.

The Xbox is better value than any other console, remember it's the same price as the old PS2. Sony have been milking all of us for far too long. Did you know that Xbox games cost nearly 20 times more to produce than PS2 or PC games ?

Microsoft is committed to Xbox and it will not fail, already they are driving down prices, In addition to the price reduction of the Xbox console (now a staggering £199), Microsoft has also reduced the price of Dead or Alive 3, Project Gotham Racing, Azurik, Nightcaster and NBA Inside Drive 2002 to €59.99/£39.99.

Many developers are now signing exclusive deals for Xbox titles that you wont see on the PS2, even Tomb Raider will eventually be an Xbox exclusive once the current contract with Sony expires.

With nearly 150 Xbox titles to be releases before Christmas, and another 300+ in development there's never been a better time to buy an Xbox.

Xbox is here to stay.

We know it's a success in the states - they love thier bigger and 'better' stuff.

Nintendo appear to be on target to do the same in Europe despite Sony's failed attempts. But look at the X-box and GameCube's launch titles compared to the Playstation 2 launch titles. It's not suprising really seeing as the console didn't have that many AAA titles.

Microsoft always exaggerate. What was that about Windows 98 being faster and more reliable than Windows 95? Oh sorry, that was the second edition of Windows 98 :P Although those are all impressive figures, they'd be better coming from an independant spokesman.

You've already said similar to that at the top...

Very good.

You've already said that above.

Better value? That's only an opinion. If you're not keen on online play, and the current games on the X-box aren't to your tastes, the PS2 or GameCube are likely to be of better value.

To match the prices of Nintendo and Sonys games (at full price - bar one or two which have exceded those prices)?

Possibly, though that's no big gain. The Tomb Raider series is only good if you can stand looking at a physically impossible woman doing the same things over and over again whilst orgasmically grunting when bumping into walls.

150 titles doesn't necessarily make them all good. I can usually only afford a few games per year, and find that there's already a nice selection of games that's steadily growing for other systems too.

As is Playstation 2 and Gamecube.

Sorry if that sounded harsh, I didn't mean it to be offesnive I just thought that you over expressed on the GameCube a lot, I am not saying lets not discuss the GameCube, but lets not always be comparing as it can lead to arguments and so forth.

Okay, fair enough. However, there are no plans for a GameCube hard drive at the moment.

I think you are a bit out about the Hard-Drive, the PS2 one was going be £100 so the GameCube one will be near that. Also, the Xbox has a DVD player, the cheapest on the market is £79.99 and with the Xbox having a top of the range DVD player I bet it is worth at least £150. The Xbox can play Audio CDs, there isn't a need for a memory card and I think that if you work it out the GameCube is expensive for what it actually does, play games! It should be around £90-100 then maybe it would be worth picking one up, but until it comes down in price I don't think I will be getting one.

Maverick42 this is an Xbox forum therefore people will talk about the Xbox more and praise it, every post I have seen you do so far has gone with words "yes the Xbox is good *but* the GameCube..." No-one has said that the GameCube isn't good, but Xboxaddict isn't interested in what the GameCube can do he is just very happy with his new Xbox. In the GameCube forum I bet it is the same, the GameCube will be praised and the Xbox will be thought of differently, but in every post that is done I doubt that people are saying "well that is all very well, but you should see what the Xbox can do", people in the Nintendo don't care what the Xbox can do, they are interested in what their console can do. This isn't a shot at you becuase I know you are interested in getting the Xbox, but perhaps you could lay off the GameCube talk a little, we know that it is a good console but it doesn't need to be compared all the time.

I agree, the N64 was a pricey business, but that's because they stuck with cartridges. They tried to make it as cheap as possible with the player's choice range, and reducing games to £40.00 rather than £45.00+ but it really did eat a hole in your pocket.

A new memory card's coming out for the GCube and it's going to be around £30.00. It will be about 20 times more powerful than the one out now. However, I'm perfectly happy with the one I've already got.

Not entirely true. Their memory cards are pretty low in space. The N64 was a disgraceful price when it first came out (as were the top games prices) and the memory cards for that system were extremely low in space.

The GC console is a good price of course, but I still think the memory card in particular isn't wonderful and could be improved.

I don't think Nintendo will bring out a hard drive. You can pick up a perfectly decent memory card for £15. However, the broadband or 56K internet will cost around £20, I agree with that. That's only around £35 extra though, and you've got to admit, Nintendo are always top when it comes to value for money.

I dont think it is.

Sure. At first sight it may seem like it.

Gamecube £130
X-Box £200

But the X-Box has big things the Gamecube doesnt have with it which would make them about the same value.

Gamecube has no harddrive. When it comes out (if they bring one out) you can bet it will be around £50.
You need to buy a 56K plugin for the gamecube (Probably be £20) for online and then a cable plugin (£30) for faster online play.

So thats an extra £100 to get the Gamecube what the X-Box already has.
That makes it about even.

Nice post, the X-Box is a great console. However, you completely forgot about the Nintendo GameCube, which is the best value for money.
