In the past, we've had remarkable creations from Shigsy. There has been Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda, all of which have remained with Nintendo for many years. Super Mario 64 - fantastic, Zelda; Ocarina of Time - possibly the best game on Earth. But it's been a very long while since we have seen other titles as successful as these.
Not long ago, Luigi's Mansion was released. A brave step was taken to put Luigi in the spotlight and change the whole game scenario. Unfortunately, Luigi's Mansion didn't do as well as it was supposed to. Many gamers complained that it became repetetive and was ridiculously short. Apparantly you can complete it in 6 hours.
Recently, we have had Pikmin. Using a completely new concept of gaming and characters, many fans were attracted. Even though it's great, like Luigi's Mansion it's too short. You can complete it in 8 hours. the majority have found this depressing.
What's going on? Why are these games so short?
Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin do not square up to Super Mario 64 and Zelda; Ocarina of time. At least we still have Mario Sunshine and the new Zelda to look forward to. The fact that the Zelda game now looks like a paper cut-out is the least of my worries. I am just hoping that the Mario and Zelda games last longer than 8 hours.
:D
Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin were both far too short but very replayable.
I'd expect you to get about 20 or so hours out of each one atleast.
Besides, just playing Pikmin proves that Mr Miyamoto still has plenty of magic.
These games were sort of rushed out for the launch.
Nintendo's future titles will have had more time spent into them.
Zelda will be big (true to the nature of adventure games) and Mario won't be quite as big, but it'll be challenging so it should last roughly as long.
Anyway, go to Prime and read Sonic Rav's topic.
A game's size isn't quite the be all and end all of lastability.
The fact is that Nintendo were severely stung with the N64. It didn't do very well at all and this was because it had few games, at least three months apart usually. Although gamers had great fun with the machine (i did) due to its impressive library of games, they were released too scarcely.
to combat this with the GameCube, Nintendo have given some of their major franchises to second and even third parties, and are concentrating on really fun, yet short games. This way they can make them quicker and release games more frequently.
The second and third parties seem to be taking more time with their games though. And don't fret about Shigsy losing his touch - early reviews say that Mario Sunshine is absolutely fantastic, and has a MINIMUM of 25 hours play to complete the game first time.
