Nice and bleak and John Hurt (sp) was fantastic for Winston Smith
However, I feel if you didn't read the book you might have struggled to understand the plot and it missed some bits out.
Still good.
And apparently the reason why 1984 is almost shot in monochrome is that the studio refused to let the shoot in black and white and they wanted to make it as desolate looking as possible. That was about the one thing I picked up from Roger Deakins' 10 minutes of face fondling on the Man Who Wasn't There DVD...

It probably would be on earlier if there wasn't full frontal nudity and the country weren't morons who'd say:
" Isn't that depresssing? " and throw it away in disgust
First time ever that my TV giude had the word 'Orwellian' twice on the same page...
I don't think I'll ever watch the film though. Simply because I'm lazy.
And I think anyone that hears the phrase "Big Brother" and thinks of the C4 mindrot should spend a few hours with the cage over their head.
