INTRODUCTION

For those who are interested, I will be writing a review after each race for the remainder of the season. As this is my first I would appreciate some feedback, although these reviews aren’t J. K. Rowling standard I will try my best.

THE NEW TRACK!

Today’s race was held at the all-new Hockenheim circuit in Germany. It has had a £40, 000, 000 makeover since last season. The changes have resulted in the massive 200mph straight being removed as it was considered too dangerous for the modern Formula One car. But the advantage to this has been that the spectators have the opportunity to watch the cars a lot more as there has been a new Mercedes Grandstand built and the race has been extended to 67 laps. The new circuit is now 2.7 miles long and is more tiresome to the cars than the old circuit.

THE REVIEW

There was action from the very start of the race as Frentzen stalled on the grid almost resulting in Allan McNish careening into the back of him. Luckily neither car hit and once the pit crew managed to get the Arrows fired up, Frentzen was able to join the race 2 laps later.

As expected Michael Schumacher marched off into the distance leaving us with a good battle between Montoya and Raikkonen. There was more Drama still to come on the first lap as Pedro De La Rosa’s car broke down, apparently with an engine failure.

The new circuit proved to be tough on all cars. The cars were dropping out like flies with only 9 drivers managing to finish the race.

Unlucky Frentzen pulled into the pits after becoming 2 laps down, he decided to call it a day and parked the car in the garage. Toyota seem to have something against Allan McNish as his engine blew once more, in the French grand prix, it was Manish’s engine blow out, that probably cost Kimi Raikkonen his maiden win. As the battle was carrying on at the front between the Schumacher brothers, Montoya and Raikkonen; the cars battling in the middle of the field were pushing their cars to the absolute limit, this was shown by the following incidents.

Jenson Button had problems with his engine and it went up in flames therefore his day was ruined. Webber also retired although I don’t yet know the reason for this but I expect it was either engine or transmission failure. B.A.R number one driver Jacques Villeneuve also retired with engine failure.

Kimi Raikkonen, one of my favourite drivers proved his determination today as his tyre exploded and he managed to force his McLaren back to the pits to get a new tyre and rejoined in 14th position but unfortunately he suffered an engine problem later and had to retire from the race.

Trulli had a small crash but it was enough to disable his car and put him out of the race. Olivier Panis also spun his car and stalled the engine, which ended his race on the 40th lap.

As usual, Barrichello got the lion’s share of bad luck at the Ferrari team as his fuel rig failed the first time but eventually the pit crew got it on and managed to get the fuel in but it cost Barrichello some valuable time.

Other retirees were Bernoldi, Fisichella and Irvine.

But at the end of the day, Schumacher took his first win in front of his home crowd; with Montoya finishing 2nd and closely behind in 3rd was Ralph Schumacher.

Results of today’s race.

1. Michael Schumacher = 10 points
2. Juan Pablo Montoya = 6 points
3. Ralph Schumacher = 4 points
4. Rubins Barrichello = 3 points
5. David Coulthard = 2 points
6. Nick Heidfeld = 1 point.

I have only included the point scorers, as it is easier to remember than all of the finishers.

I hope you enjoyed this review and any criticism is appreciated so that I can write better reviews in future.

Thank You

James.
