Look around you, what do you see? I suspect you are surrounded by many materialistic items, a computer, a Hi-Fi, maybe a DVD player or VHS recorder, but do you live for these items or do they just help to pass the time that you exist on this earth? Love in the 21st century can be both materialistic and from the heart, life as they say is 'what you make it', but what is existence? If love is both materialistic and from the heart, how do we differentiate between life and existence? I suppose sitting at a computer for 8 hours a day, maybe watching a bit of TV, having something to eat and then going to bed is just an existence; but in an age where technology influences the way we think and act, would that mean that the previous circumstance was life?
A video-game which I have played recently emphasises what could possibly be the true meaning of life, 'follow you heart and remember to stay focused on what you truly believe in', those famous words were taken from Shenmue and to me they explain life, if you want to do something then 'face your fears and live your dreams' because only then will you be at peace with yourself. Recently I went to Alton Towers for the end of term school trip, previously the Nemesis had defeated my 4 times; I couldn't face my fear and instead I chose to run away from what life was throwing at me. This time I wanted to over come my fear, after all the ride is there for my enjoyment, yet it was spoiling my existence, after-wards I felt ecstatic with life, I had faced what could possibly have been written in my fate, or it could have just been me wanting to live life to the full and get every enjoyment I can out of the time I have on this earth.
Many of you will laugh, possibly snigger at fears which are irrational and that some people can not over come, it is your mind playing games with you, but most of the time we don't want to play back. If we face everything that life throws at us it will no longer be an existence, you will feel that you are actually living and not going along with whatever everyone else is doing. Some people are agoraphobic and find it a struggle to cope in out-door environments that posses a mental threat towards them, although agoraphobia can have physical effects on the body it is mainly controlled by a fear which is created in the mind then expressed in a physical form. Facing something as tough as claustrophobia or agoraphobia is very challenging and it requires help from others, but instead of sitting back and accepting what life has thrown at us we try to fight against it to turn our existence into something more enjoyable, something like... Life!
If and only when you face what life has to offer will you be living, sitting back and accepting what life has to offer will only qualify as an existence, don't let materialistic items rule the way you live, fight for what you believe in and get as much out of what life has to offer as what is possible to take. As I have said, 'face your fears and live your dreams' as only then will you be at peace with yourself. Sitting at a computer and going along with everyone else is sometimes the right thing to do, but if you feel inside that you are not acting in a way which your heart is telling you too then do what you believe in; if you take on a task which you want to see through to the end then make sure you do see it through to the end otherwise you will not be living life.
Life is a mixture of both existence and living for what you believe, if you always follow your heart and do what you believe you will fight against existence and begin to enjoy life, don’t just settle for second best, strive on to live life to the full! Ask yourself this question, 'do I live or do I exist?' Whatever the answer is change it to be what you would like, if existence is what your heart wants then you are living your life, but for those who want to change the order of their every day lives then do so, as only then will you be 'at peace with ones self'!
Thanks for reading!
And the meaning of life is just existance, thats what all species strive for in the long run, if you think about it.
You see you have to look at the view point that we are all just slightly evolved animals, society and morals are just tools we use to survive.
And that my friend is the meaning or rather non- meaning of life.
In my opinion.
And you mentioned that we were probably looking at materialistic objects, such as a computer, lol of course I am looking at a computer! How the hell would I be typing this.
Good post.
Good post though Garbe.
Well done.....
> Do you ever wonder what your purpose is on earth?
