I have a RIOCH DVD/CD-RW combo 40x20x10x12x, which runs very nicely. I'll never need another, and if I do I've got Euripides.

I'm planning to "upgrade" the firmware on this CD-RW though to allow it to burn faster, *grin*.

Er, I use 3 CD Drives (CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD) and take it from me, you dont need em. I rarely use 1, let alone 3..

You could connect all three at once, but you don't have enough drive bays to hold them all. I think I'm right in saying that you can have a maximum of four IDE drives in your computer at once. So as long as you've got an IDE slot free then there's no problems on the technical side. Your IDE slots are most likely to be taken up by cd/dvd drives and hard-disks, so if I were you I would check to see how many hard-disks you have in your computer to see if you have an IDE slot free. Alternatively you could take the case off your PC and look for the cable that connects your DVD drive to your CD writer/hardisk to the motherboard, there should be another identical cable that goes from the other drive to the motherboard. If this has both slots occupied then you're stuck, if not then you can fit all three drives into your computer.

If you don't hav a drive bay to put it in you could consider buying a bigger pc case but that would be too much hassle, as you'd have to take everything out of your PC and put it into the new case. Which I wouldn't recommend.

I'd suggest that you ditch the old cd writer, because there is no point whatsoever in keeping it in your system. You can't sopy two cds at the same time unless your PC has some serious horsepower, and your DVD drive can be used for transferring. If you do ditch the old cd writer, then all you need to do is unplug the cables in the back of that, and plug them in exactly the same way into your new one. So long as you've set the jumpers right, you should then be up and running.

Why do you need to connect all three items?. Once you get your new cd writer cant you just disconnect the other one?

I know I replied to this in the other forum but I think you are more likely to read this here.
