It all began on a sunny day in July. Mr. Miyamoto needed something new. He needed a plumber as his toilet was busted. He called up the service and along came a fat guy with a moustache. "Now if only people would notice people like that," he thought. "They work hard and deserve the attention."
Thus Mario was born. Only problem was finding the perfect one to play the part. Then walking down the street one day Miyamoto found the perfect guy. Mario.
So far Mario has always been the hero of heros. He has been up against many obstacles, many including Bowser, and he always seems to win. But how has this amazing winning streak kept afloat so as not to sink to the bottom of failure? That was never to be answered, until now. You see Mario was not all that everyone thought he was. He had many dark secrets and never released them. Only him, Toad, Luigi, Bowser and Peach knew it. They were sworn to secrecy. We eventually caught up with Toad and asked him what the heck was going on and he told us, after we handed him 100 gold coins.
He said this: "Mario was never a hero, he was just the not so pretty face behind it all. You see he had a twin. Along with him before Luigi was born another. His name is Canios. He was the real star. Problem was that he was sentenced to 50 years of community service after speading graffiti all over the Mushroom Kingdom. He was owned by the law. But to shorten his time he was to help make a new star. That star was Mario."
Mr Miyamoto said this: "We needed something new, something amazing, something funny. That's how I came up with Mario. Problem was the real Mario was too fat and lazy to do any of the stunts he does now. Luckily his brother Canios was there. Only problem was that it was too risky having him work full time. We had no idea what he was capable of. So we had Mario do the talking and Canios do the walking if you know what I mean."
So Mario was not the true star. Or kind of. But how exactly did he become the star he is now, and will he ever take over his brother Canios? The hole in the floor of stardom was widening quickly and it was maybe about to suck Mario in. He was loved by all. He was in the money. Until one day.
Mario eventually took over Nintendo and wanted it all for himself. Mr. Miyamoto still works there and is till a great designer but not as we know him. It turns out all the characters including Link and DK were stolen from him. Mario claimed he had created them and got more money. He was going mad, but he actually did some good too.
After the release of the Nintendo 64 (actually created by Mario himself.) the games seemed to be less and less.
Mario: "I had just released my lastest creation and was really excited. Mario 64 was a raving success. Everything was fine. Then out of the blue third parties didn't help much at all. Probably because of Donkey Kong. I never liked that smelly ape."
This was trouble and Nintendo wanted to be popular. Mario came to the rescue once again by creating the Gamecube. After PS2 and X Box being released Nintendo needed back up. Tune in after the break and we will reveal much more as we go "Beyond the Cameras."
Welcome back. Now Mario being the imaginative guy he was created a next generation console called Gamecube. Shortly after the release he sadly broke his leg. He needed a new star for his game. Canios was too risky and things looked worse for wear. Something had to be done.
Luigi said: "I was so happy when my brother asked me to star in a game. I thanked him for choosing me first and hugged him. But he said that he'd asked Bowser, DK, Link, Wario, Peach and Toad first. But who cares. The game itself was based on ghosts and was quite short because Mario got better and everyone wanted to work with him again. my fame was short but sweet."
So Nintendo were back on track. Until Super Mario Sunshine was released in Japan. Mario had no new ideas so he turned top Sega for help. They'd always been there for them in time of need.
Sega President told us: "Mario was a good friend so we decided to help him, if he payed us of course. We looked at our past games and saw Jet Set Radio. It was then we told them to base a game on graffiti. It was a raving success. we got money and so did Mario."
Mario's fame was rocketing like the fuse of dynamite being blown towards explosing. He had it all. But how? What about Sonic and DK and Link? Well something terrible happened on 22 May 2002. Sonic the blue hedgehog was murdered. All fingers pointed at Mario and his popularity decreased. Basically before the incident he told Sonic where he could go in a press conference. Was it Mario? Who knows?
So now you know the secrets about our fat red plumber. Next time you look at him don't believe he's perfect, check the facts. Next week on Behind the Camera: Donkey Kong. His problems. "I couldn't stop the bananas and alchohol. They made a great mix."
Thanks for reading.
