He was that giant-sized fire-breathing Dinosaur/Dragon hybrid who was always stood in Mario's way from getting to the Princess Peach whom he desired. If you've played one or more of the Mario games from over the years then you can't have exactly missed him!
I can only think of two... maybe three Mario classics where the Big Boss himself hasn't tried to stop Mario in his tracks in one-way or another.
Without a Bowser at the end of the game, would it still be Mario??
You just simply can't imagine a Mario game without big Bowser raising the heat at the end of that very last level - like a flaming hell-hole!
No matter how many times he's kidnapped the Princess and run-off and left Mario with a challenging job to do, you just don't get bored of stomping on those Goombas and kicking those Koopa Trooper shells!
Nintendo have tried on a few occasions during Mario's early years to replace the evil King but the effect still hasn't been the same.
In the original Super Mario Land Mario took to the skies and defeated an evil space-creature who has now been long-forgotten after his very short 5 minutes of fame. Then in the second game we were introduced to Wario, who was then taken further and now has his own series of games on the GameBoy and will soon make his long-awaited Home Console debut on the GameCube.
And then there was the dreamland of Super Mario Bros. 2, and the evil King Boo shutting down the power on Luigi's Mansion with his poor and cheap immitation of Bowser himself.
Even if Wario has been made a hero in his own right, or if Super Mario Bros. 2 did offer us a new and frustrating challenge, it's still nowhere near the same as when Bowser terrorises the Toads of the Mushroom Kingdom.
There's just something about it..... it's just so..... 'Super Mario'!
And with a new guy causing a lot of messy-problems in the upcoming Mario 64 Super Mario Sunshine, we are once again going to be dissapointed at by not seeing our favourite Video Games Villain in full-command once again.
Sure, it might be a great game otherwise, but now that we haven't seen Bowser in full 3D since Mario 64 back in the mid-late 90's he really could begin to dissapear from the Mario Bros. series once and for all!
It seems more likely that Luigi, Yoshi, and maybe even TOAD will be making more appearences than the great evil one!!
It just isn't right - it just isn't 'Mario'.
Bowser and Mario have been rivals since the dawn of (Nintendo's) time and that is something that should always be. We don't want Wario in the big games, we don't want Waluigi, and we especially don't want Aliens from outer-space!
Even Cranky Kong's appearence as DK in the classic Donkey Kong Arcade Game made a better effort that this lot!
And what about Bowser's kids?? If you're not gunna have the daddy then why not bring his kids back-up from Mario Bros. 3?
Or.... why not give Bowser a game of his own!
After all, it's worked wonders for Wario who started out as a bad guy.
If Bowser's going to be neglected from all those except the 'Mario Extras' like Super Smash Bros. and Mario Golf then Nintendo could at least give him his own game, so we can learn a whole lot more about the creature who started it all, and who has really made Mario the hero he is today!
It woudln't even have to have a Happy Ending. It could be an adventure in whhich Bowser has to travel arround destroying all that is good and pleaseant in the Mushroom Kingdom, taking on the goody-goddies one-by-one.
Making him the hero would just start-off another Wariolike series.
This could really help to revive Bowser's sinking reputation, and with Mario as the man in his way this time, a whole new world in Nintendo Gaming could become open, with a large number of new oppurtunities open to Shigsy and co. for many years to come!
The fact is that the name Bowser just doesn't mean what it used to anymore - and I bet Mario just goes-ahead and laughs at him now unlike how he used to cowering figure he used to morph into at the enterance to Bowser's latest Castle.
Sprining off his own new adventure series could be just what he needs!
He is the evil king after-all, and I see no clear reason as to why he should be forgotten!
It's like a Sonic adventure without Dr.Robotnik.... never gunna happen!
It's a suicidal mistake to leave even one of the most well-known charcters out of the latest adventure! Let's hope he doesn't fade away into the heat of Miyamoto's evil flames....
"Bowser dear, go wash the kids"
"But, but..... they are spikey, and they hurt!"
"don't make me get Mario on you!"
"Argh! I'm going, i'm going!"
*off runs bowser*
"Now, Mario, come here while I give your bottom a spanking for beating up my kids!"
;D
Good god....
And with that in mind, if he's a baby, how can you be so sure that all that 'sludge' out there is really a load of oil and slick..... :S
What's that, nearly 10 kids now....
Who's the exhausted mother then!???
Maybe she'd be a good final boss?
I say 'new' as in 'reappearing'
