There is a lot of emphasis on the quality of games. Interactivity, atmosphere, a credible story line, smooth graphics and sound are defining points in the rating of a game. However I feel that there is a lot to be gained by advancing in a slightly forgotten area, namely Input Devices.

First-person shooters and adventure games are fun as they let you live a different life than you own. However there are a lot of limitations. Recently playing Deus EX, I started feeling engulfed in a compelling story-line, but also wanting more freedom.

This is the idea that came to me when trying to lob an EMP-grenade at a sentry bot hidden behind a low hanging cliff. Trowing the grenade in the only way possible only made the grenade bounce off the cliff and right back at me, or landing 4 miles away from the bot in question.

So, imagine a motion-sensitive glove or handheld pod, that would allow your to flick a grenade under that cliff and right next to the bot, with a simple flick of the wrist. (Watch "The Matrix" and you'll know what I want, those gloves are cool)

Think about it. You see a weapon on the ground and, instead of just stepping on it, you'd actually have to move your hand down and pick it up. You'd be able to shoot around corners by sticking your gun around it and blasting away. You could slit somebody throat by just gesturing in mid air. Sure, you'd look like a lepper with parkinson's, but it would be fun.

We need more versatile and enabling input device. Make the device fit the game and not vice versa.

A glove? Think that before that comes out we'll have needles that stick into our head and we'll play the game from our mind. It'll be like you're really there and when you get blown to peices, the game stops, you wake up to the real world and remember - it was only a game!
