What if the people who come up with the ideas for games had come up with something totally different, would we be where we are now with the same game. Does anyone really care what has happened? Not really but for comedy we can re-arrange some past events just for a laugh.
What if Mario wasn't a plumber or didn't have a brother? Imagine he was a womanising drunk who got drunk all the time and failed on many occassions to rescue the princess. Instead of dungarees he wore his pants and a t-shirt saying "I'm with stupid" Would the game still be as much fun?
I doubt it.
What if Lara Croft was a man, would that game and its many crap sequels still appeal to so many young boys and men who play it. Are they buying it for the game or just to see her baps bounce when she runs? What if Lara was infact a man who dressed up in womans clothes? Would you still play it as much?
I doubt it.
They may be poor examples but they prove a very valid point in todays industry. The thought that goes into planning the characters and the storyline thesedays is unbelievable. It has to be as the only way a game will be succesful is to make it right. Take MGS2 for example. It is being re-made to allow us to control Snake the whole way through as that Raiden bloke is a pansy and people don't like him. They want Snake!
What about other games that have already been released? Would a change to the main character have made the game better/worse to play? In many cases the answer in the past would probably be no, why? For the simple reason that few games acctualy told you much or required you to know much about the character. These days things are totally different, the story of most games revolves around one or a group of characters and each has a unique role and has been created to fill its part.
Who knows were gaming is going in the future but expect a lot of detailed thought to go into characters, women will have large chests and skimpy clothes, who knows we could even see multiple copies of games each with a different style of main characters so that the US get a typical patriotic american, We get some normal bloke and the Japenese get a anime loving gadget bloke.
Or something like that :-)
So what if Lara was a fat man with a beard, or Mario was a homosexual, or Britneys jugs were bigger in her game. Would these effect the selling numbers of the game?
Dosn't take a clever cloggs to tell you the answer will be yes. It is obvious that Lara's Juggs made that game, the idea of the game was good but Lara's juggs appealed to little boys and some grown men all over the world.
Same with Mario, he was a plumber as it was to show he was hardworking and earned a living. What if he was a pimp and the princess was just one of his hoes. Much better idea for the game if you ask me, Mario running around in a Leopard skinned Coat trying to rescue a scantily clad princess from a gorilla. It makes sense to me.
Ok so my question to you is what if characters were different, would if effect the game that much? What characters would you change if you could and how would you change them?
Also:
Did you buy any tomb raider game? If so was it because of laras Juggs?
Would you prefer it if mario was a :1. Drunk. 2. Plumber. 3. Pimp?
intresting...
