A couple of days ago Natbuc mentioned that Rosalind is one of the Characters in the RPG Summoner. He thought that is where I got my nick from. He was wrong though because Rosalind is actually my name, although he did get me thinking about my name and where it comes from, so I did a bit of research and here is what I found out...
Rosalind...from Germanic " soft or gentle horse"
...from Italian "beautiful Rose"
...from Greek "horse-serpant"
I think that the italian suits me best though ;)
Characteristics:
Confiding
Affectionate
Idealistic
Rosalinds frequently remain unmarried for she seldom finds her true partner
(describes me pretty well....even down to the argument I had with my boyfriend this morning ;))
Shakespere also liked the name Rosalind. She is one of the main characters in his play As you like it
...here is a sonnet that he wrote
From the east to western Ind
No jewel is like Rosalind
Her worth, being mounted on the wind
Through all the world bears Rosalind
All the pictures fairest lined
Are but black to Rosalind
Let no fair be kept in mind
But the fair of Rosalind
(As you like it Act 3, Scene II)
other interesting rosalind facts:
Rosalind is one of the satellites that orbits Uranus (but don't say that too fast :p)
Rosalind Franklin was omn the team that discovered the structure of DNA with watson and crick, but because she dies young, she couldn't share in their nobel prize, more recently she has become an icon for feminists!
Rosalind Russel is a famous actress who turned down an oscar for best supporting actress in the film Picnic
So know you know all about my name
Thanks for reading
Ros
P.S
I "borrowed" bits from lots of different sources - too many to list.
