The following fact may upset and even confuse some of you, but – there are still people out there that DOESN’T have consoles or play games AT ALL! Shocking, eh? But, even so, they are in the minority. Anyway, even though many people do own a console of some sort, some people are still very basic in the way they play – or, in other words – they…aren’t very good at all. And it’s why I’ve come up with this ingenious idea to tell those talent-neglected simians how to play WELL. Now, remember, this advice is coming from someone who, like most of you there on the forums, has had a lot of game-playing experience in each gaming genre, so it’s likely to all be worth the reading, even though most of you don’t need the help. Saying that, my advice may not coincide with yours, and so I welcome anyone else’s with open arms.

My first part of advice will be on First Person Shooters, (Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, TimeSplitters and Quake all spring to mind.) which is possibly my favourite genre and probably what I’m best at.
The most important and obvious bit of advice would be to memorise your controls (because you may have chose a certain set, or configuration) and become even remotely familiar with them. What you MUST quickly learn is how to LOOK up and down (E.g – right analogue stick) and how to STRAFE (again, right analogue stick), because while moving about and turning is utterly simple, it is essential that you can shoot above and below you when the time comes. For example, a simulant (or BOT) could be above you, quickly wearing away your health with some well-placed shots. What you must do is use the right analogue stick to look up, the left analogue stick to turn and face the blighter, and empty some lead into his ugly face – once completely annihilated, you’ve successfully mastered the first main use of the right analogue stick. But it ain’t the most important, oh no, it’s the STRAFING. You see, knowing how to make yourself a hard-to-hit target for a foe is a great way to stay alive for that little bit longer to either grab a better gun or recover your health. Even if you don’t yet know how to look up and down, you can successfully avoid bullet fire from above or below by strafing and instead satisfy yourself with a kill from an adversary on the same level as you.
But the advantages of strafing don’t stop there. What is always strongly advisable is to ALWAYS STRAFE WHENEVER POSSIBLE, especially around corners. Why? It’s obvious: so you can see possible enemies at the same time as they see you. There’s never an easier kill than an inexperienced player who comes charging out of a doorway without looking around the corner first. So ALWAYS STRAFE! You must be aware – CONSTANT VIGILANCE!
Reloading – whenever you kill someone, now that you’re slightly more cunning thanks to this helpful advice, always reload afterwards, just in case you run out the next time you run into someone. A favourite scenario is when you’ve got about 5 bullets left, you meet someone with a full clip, you use all your bullets, and whilst your desperately trying to reload and save yourself, they splatter your brains across the floor…dammit! Always reload after a kill! - CONSTANT VIGILANCE!
Acquiring a better weapon – change to it, then! Why have a measly little incy-wincy pistol, when you can have a rip-roaring shotgun, eh? * Note: I like pistols better, not because they ARE, but I just do :D*
Always – where possible – camp. Not against humans, though! They’ll hate it and call you a cheat, as I would do, so just do it against Sims. Don’t do it for too long, though, you must keep up the strafing and looking practice!
Keep moving – on some levels, finding a route that runs through “Death Valley” (Area where most participants congregate and kill each other) is a good idea, because it’ll lead to more chances of kills and you may get some more whilst retracing the route – always advisable. (E.g – Chinese level on TimeSplitters – through the kitchen!)
Grenades, dynamite, proxies, timed mines, etc., are always worth laying down whilst on your route, as it’s more thank likely that some unsuspecting fool will run into them and add to your kill tally. Although, make a mental note not to go through the area you did lay them, just in case they’re still there – you don’t want too big a suicide count, eh?

Right, I think that’s all. If some of you DO benefit from these handy hints and tips/advice, then please say so. Want to add some advice? Yes?! Then do so.

Thanks for reading.
