Copied this off a site, see if it works:

Backdoor passwords

Many BIOS manufacturers have provided backdoor passwords that can be used to access the BIOS setup in the event you have lost your password. These passwords are case sensitive, so you may wish to try a variety of combinations. Keep in mind that the key associated to "_" in the US keyboard corresponds to "?" in some European keyboards. Laptops typically have better BIOS security than desktop systems, and we are not aware of any backdoor passwords that will work with name brand laptops.

WARNING: Some BIOS configurations will lock you out of the system completely if you type in an incorrect password more than 3 times. Read your manufacturers documentation for the BIOS setting before you begin typing in passwords

If it was a refurbished computer, then there could be a (slight) chance that the previous owner placed a password. Either that, or the firm who sold the PC is trying to cause trouble for you.

To clear out a blocked BIOS, you need to clear the memory. Have a read through the motherboard manual, or find some info on the internet for the motherboard, but you usually have to turn off the PC, change a jumper setting, leave the PC off for 5 mins, change the jumper back then power up again, but it can differ, and you need to know which jumper to use.

I would, however, go back to whoever sold you the PC and complain, threaten to take legal action unless they take it off, that's well out of order.

Insert the Win XP CD and boot from there. You'll have the option to reformat the hard drive before installing Windows XP fresh again.

Are you sure you want to format?

That means completely deleting everything on the disk. If that's what you want then make sure that you back up any stuff you want to keep, and then there's an easier way of doing it than the other suggestion. Boot up from your cd drive (you may need to change a bios setting to do this) and have the windows XP pro cd in the drive. Then just opt to do a clean install of XP, et voila, you will have windows XP installed on a completely clean disk.

Use a boot floopy and at the A: drive type

format c:\ [ENTER]

Alternatively use Add/Remove in Control Panel.
