I just took the V-Rally 3 disc out for the first time to play the Stuntman demo and I saw these strange marks on it - can you see the little spots on it? They feel slightly greasy.

Of course, this isn't a melted disc, but it's been played a helluva lot - I hardly ever turn my PS2 off.

Whaddya think? :-)

My slodgy (:D) disks work with my PC fine. That's why I'm not too worried about it.

Yeah, that's it Tom. Although there are a few DVDs that don't work with my PC, and they all have that slodge on it. But I'm not sure whether it's to do with WWindows XP and my DVD drive or with the discs themselves.

I know what he means. A lot of my DVD's have it. It's like a little sqiggly line going around, like some liquid type thing right?

It doesn't affect the disk though, so it doesn't bother me. A few of my DVDs have it.

That's teh PS symbol present on all official disc, or you may be seeing another form of authentication.

I know what you mean, but that's not it. The CDs / DVDs you are referring to, where data is not present on the outer part of the disc; if you see the divide between the part where data is stored and where it is blank, there is clearly a circle dividing the two sections throughout.

However, I am referring to a random part (depending on the disc) where there is slight discolouration in the form of a wave shaped area of the DVD/CD, when compared to the rest of it.

The colour inside the area is the same as the rest of the disc.

Hmm, I'm not at all good at explaining things without thinking about it first. Imagine if a squiggly circle was drawn on any part of the underside of the disc, but instead of the colour of the pen, there is a slightly darker shade of silver outlining it.

Phew, that was difficult.

Correct me if I am wrong but that is the part of the disc which doesn't contain any Data. If you check quite a lot of CD's haven them becuase not all use up the the memory available. Its nothing to worry about it is just part of the disc that doesn't contain data, the CD's with blue data sides hide these marks better than silver CD's.

On the subject of strange patterned discs, has anyone got a DVD or CD where part of the underside of the disc (the data side), usually a squiggled area, is coloured slighly differently from the rest of the disc?
