Why don't they do a 128-bit version for the PS2 or the DC? It would even sell well on the N64. Good futuristic RPGs set in an outer space environment are unfortunately few and far between, and it seems to be a niche market. Final Fantasy VIII came pretty close to the format, but a Buck Rogers game is what the next gen consoles really need.
If you remember the original turn based battles in the corridors of the StarPorts, imagine how that would play when you mix in first person perspective, throwing gas grenades around a corner to mask the laser fire of 5 or 6 enemies, for example, then nipping around with your team and taking them out with your swords and needle-guns. Or the battles on the planet surfaces, freeing hostages, with a bit of FMV mixed in this could be a real winner.
The original game had a lot of depth, but not the sort we are used to today. The gameplay was superb and that wouldn't need a lot of tweaking. The trading system for armour and weapons was first rate, and the space battles and docking sequences to board enemy vessels could be enhanced a lot with some atmospheric music and cut sequences.
What ever happened to SSL then?
