There has been many attempts to match Mario Kart in terms of sheer brilliance when it comes to racing in this form. Most characters have been used in an attempt to emulate this game such as, Crash Team Racing, Diddy Kong Racing, Looney Toons, South Park, Mickey Mouse and now even Star Wars.
One license that has not yet been mentioned is The Simpsons. Although there are a few games now in development there has been a definate lack of Simpsons titles over the years.
Simpsons Street Racer would be used in much the same way as all the other titles, but with a few twists.

To start of with you dont jump straight into a kart and expect to race. Instead you have to work your way through the game to earn different vehicles. First off you have to race on foot. Obviously the idea will be to outrun your opponent, but with different characters having different abilities there will be a range of items to help you on your way. Take for example Homer Simpson, as he is overweight and cant run fast by placing donuts/food around the track he should gain speed and close in on the food before anyone else does. Same would apply to Police Cheif Wiggum and the Comic Book Store Guy. As Mr. Burns is too old to run then money would be placed around the track aswell as having Smithers there to help him cheat his way to victory, where as Barney Gumble would chase after cans of beer.

Once the running is completed then you move to the skateboarding round where from here everyone will have equal abilities. The tracks would involve skating over obstacles and showing off to gain extra points to use to get more of the game.

After the skateboarding will come the bicycles, after that the karts, then the cars and motorbikes, and finally the mega vehicles, such as the school bus, vans, dust karts, ploughing machines, and even helicopters.

During the game you have to earn points to unlock extra characters, tracks, vehicles, etc...
The tracks will be based around Springfield but like Metropolis Street Racer every building will be exactly in proportion how it is in the TV series. There would be over 100 courses, that range from a simple race around the block to a tour around the town going through buildings/houses, over jumps, etc... To add to long term play there will be a multiplayer mode an online mode and a triatholon where you have a huge race and go from running to swimming to driving against the whole of the townsfolk.

Every last detail would be there again like MSR every tree, every landmark, real shop fronts and some houses will be open to race through that feature everything from pictures on the wall to pets sleeping by the fire.
Famous landmarks would feature, Moes Bar, Kwik-E-Mart, Shopping centre, town centre complete with Jebidiah Springfield statue, Nuclear Power Plant, etc...

There will be a huge ammount of characters to start with and to unlock including, Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge, Maggie, Mr. Burns, Smithers, Flanders, Moe, Barney, Nelson, Milhouse, Skinner, Chief Wiggum, Kent Brockman, Groundskeeper Willie, Grandpa, etc... and every character has their own strengths, weaknesess, animations, voices and catchphrases.

Modes would include Racing Season: start from the beginning and unlock every course, Story Mode, Training, Time Trial, Free Drive Multiplayer Mode and Online gaming.

This could make a great game and by using the power of next generation machines will ensure that it is as faithfull to the cartoon as possible. The icing on the cake would be for races to take place in real time.
