Maude was mauve. She didn't particularly like the colour, but when the time came to choose, she was unaware of other available choices, and everyone else in town was mauve anyway. Maude thought that she'd just have to grow to like mauve, like everyone else did.

One day a strange lad moved into town. Without having ever spoken to him, the whole population of Mauveton was sure that he was strange. Hell, they hadn't even clearly seen his face, but they were sure that he was strange, none the less. The lad, Angus Steakhouse, wasn't strange, he was just different. Angus, you see, was yellow. Nobody spoke to Angus, fearing him, they just went about their days, not daring to go into his new vegetarian restuarant on the High Street, he wasn't one of them, he wasn't mauve.

Maude felt like everyone else at first. He was strange, he was to be feared. Only one day, she started to watch him after spotting him shopping. He didn't really act any differently to anyone else. He picked up items, looking at the prices, and checking the change in his pockets, worrying about money just like the elderly mauve lady trying to decide which brand of ketchup to buy. So Maude followed him. He went to his restuarant, and opened up for lunch. Maude watched from across the street, watching as people looked at the menu in the window, but didn't go in. They were happy to go to the kebab shop down the road, which had also just opened, even after the owner had previously been shut-down for poisoning half of his previous town. Mind you, he was mauve, he was one of them.

Maude didn't like this. She was hungry, she went into the restaurant owned by the yellow lad. He greeted her at the door, led her to a table, and showed her the menu, just like would happen in any other restaurant, any other mauve restaurant.

At the end of her meal Maude thanked Angus, and paid him, then thanked him again. Angus asked why she felt the need to thank him twice. Maude just smiled and left. Maude had decided that she didn't want to be mauve anymore. No, Maude wanted to be purple.

You know, I was just thinking the very same thing myself.

How bizarre.
