Well I have read today that it is finally on it's way.
It is said that it will be loosely based on the computer game of the same name. Some sort of 'Scientists get stuck in the middle of Aliens/Predator battle type scenario'.
It will be Directed by the same guy who Directed 'Scooby-doo'.
I really hope he does a good job. This is an awesome concept for a great movie.

It's guaranteed to be naff then.
AvP has been on and off since the original Alien movie, but they've never carried it through because the general belief was that it would flop, with the renewed interest in the topic after AvP and AvP2 for the PC Fox decided to cash in on that and push the movie forward. Same thing has happened with Superman, nobody wants to risk being the one to make the next film, as it went downhill rapidly after the first 2... the last slated actor to play SM was Nicholas Cage, he doesn't really strike anyone as a candidate for Superman, and the proposed plot was really dodgy. Still, Smallville has been successful, if it continues to be after the second series then the film will likely be pushed forward like AvP - it'd be extremely lucrative for DC and Universal if they used the existing cast of Smallville as the same characters in a film.
Spider-Man was put off in the same way, fortunately for the better, because if they went ahead and made it 4yrs ago as was planned - we'd all have had to suffer that gobshite Leonardo Di Caprio as Peter Parker, and the CGI would've look N A S T Y.
Given the advances that have happened since the original Alien, and Predator films, I reckon AvP could be pretty special.
