We all know what's going on with the Rio Ferdinand situation right now.
A new manager's arrived to take-over, he wants Rio to stay, but Manchester United are persistantly on his trail with a £35m offer on the table.
But what we don't know is what exactly is going on in the mind of the former West Ham defender and star England international.
Surely the descisions and options flying around every second in his head must be driving him crazy!
Should he stay with Leeds and wait to see if Venners can bring in the gory, or should he hop straight-off to Old Trafford and assist them in their trophy-bound ways.

What should he do????

Well, all we know/have read so far is that he's becoming increasingly unhappy at Leeds due to the lack of silverware being brought in season-after-season. Even though he's only been at Elland Road for a full season or two, the club Captain feels that he needs to start winning things while he's still young. And that seems to be something he could almost be guarrenteed to achieve if he moves to Old Trafford to play under the watching eyes of Sir Alex Ferguson.

That seems like THE choice to make - and to tell Mr.Venables he wants to leave and run-off to 'sunny'-old Manchester to play with Beckham and Giggsy and co. That's certainly help him in his search for honours, and it may also help him reach his highest-potential for the future!
But is it really the descision he should be making??

Sure, United are a great team to play for - if not the one of the top 3 teams in Europe! I'm also certain that Rio would love to be playing in and amongst the biggest names in World Football today.
But would life really be so 'sweet' for him there??
David O'Leary and Harry Redknapp are 2 different managers who are very similar in the ways that they are close to each and every one of their players, like a father or best friend even.
Despite being Knighted for his efforts during the last decade, Alex Ferguson does not fall under this category. Even with big-name stars of the likes of Cantona and Schmeichel he's caused problems, and has treated them off the pitch with no more respect than that of what he gives to a piece of Wrigley's Chewing Gum he's tossed onto the floor after the Full Time Whistle has been blown.

So although Rio may be more than happy on the pitch at United, things may not be so red and rosey for him off it - like it used to be at Leeds.
Terry Venables has also shown his kind side to players over the years.
Look at how he helped Boro only last year, and what about England in Euro '96. Maybe he'd be better-off staying where he is, and seeing what Terry Venables really can do for his beloved Leeds United.

The option of signing for Man United is just one option open to him, if he can persuade Venables to let Fergie by-pass the Elland Road Defence and make-contact with the big centre-half.

If I was Rio Ferdinand and I personally had the choice to sign for Manchester United, i'd take it - as a United fan!
But as far as we know, Rio's more of an 'appy 'ammer than a Red Devil...
A return to Upton Park is out of the question, they just simply couldn't afford him now!
There was also talk of interest from all-around Europe a while back, but that seems to have suddenly died-down.
So she only alternative route open to him at the moment seems to lead to Old Trafford. All flights to Spain and Italy seem to have been delayed or cancelled.

At this moment in time, Rio Ferdinand only has 2 clear options:
1. He stays at Leeds United, tells Sir Alex to "Bog-off!", and gives Terry Venables the time he needs to show Rio that this IS a club on a mission in search of European Treasures.
Or 2. He tells Venners he wants to go now, has a quick chat with Alex Ferguson, and is soon lining-up infront of thousands of spectators on the day of the Champions' League Final for the 2002/03 season.

The choice is his. Lets hope he chooses wisely and really thinks hard about this - and prove to one and all that footballers CAN think for themselves about more than just women and more money!

And it's not like this could be the worst descision he's ever made either.
He and Kirsty Gallagher went they're seperate ways and it seems he's done nothing to get them back together again since!

Boy, some footballers really are THICK!!

Not a good start for Venables then!
Will he even last as-long as O'Leary??
What if they ask O'Leary to come back!??? He's said he would...

But who'll be next?
I think it's all down to a bad relationship with Terry Venables.

For Rio and a few others, this is the first manager of this kind they've played for at club level. O'Leary and Redknapp were like a father/friend to him, Terry Venables isn't quite like that though...

Heh, I knew you'd agree with me! ;D

It now seems that Rio COULD finally be on his way to Old Trafford very soon after he faxed Peter Ridsdale to say he wants to leave.

We can only put two and two together right now to say that he wants to go to United, with them being the only club to have shown a strong and persistant interest in him.

I've got a feeling Ridsdale will allow him to go for the £30m-odd income, but i'm not so sure Terry Venables will see eye-to-eye with him... :(

With Rio going, Michael Dubbery could also be back in the frame for a regular place in the Leeds defence - unless of course they DO sign Ayala - who's agent is in London this week.
