"Not the brightest bulb in the lamp"

Help please someone, I'm probably years behind, but I wanted a DS Lite, which I have now got, went to the local Walmart store bought Legend of Spyro A New Begining, raced home inserted the game and wait for it, can't get the little monster off the first screen, it keeps saying press B to jump which i do but can't seem to get him anywhere he just keeps jumping into things, if it's not too old a game can anyone advise me where i can get the instructions.

Just had a quick go on this hopefully can point you in the right direction. When you start the game you're in a clearing, just to your right you can see 2 toadstools that are red/brown. If you walk to the right the screen will scroll revealing a cobble path just past those 2 toadstools (it run vertically). So basically you go right/down to start of the path, follow the path up. And then you'll come a ledge just above the path (most of the ground is purple on it). So then you use B + UP to jump up onto it and then you jump up onto the next ledge and so on.

I'm guessing that you follow the character at the start and jump over the gaps. If you can't find the path, just wander around trying different areas that look like paths. It can't be that difficult, it's a tutorial level.

Thanks for your help but I must be very thick, the screen shows a load of toadstools (no winding path) and I just can't get anywhere!!
