Here's something that grabbed my attention in the Sunday People on.... Sunday!:

'Ronaldo's Inter Giving Some Help'

"Inter Milan's super-star strikers Ronaldo, Christian Vieri and Alvaro Recoba have offered to take pay-cuts to help lift their club through Italian Football's financial crisis.

Inter said on their official website that the idea of the cut between five and ten percent came from Italy international Vieri. He called Brazillian World Cup Winner Ronaldo, who later contacted Recoba.

Vieri said: "We spoke to each other and decided to do something - a direct gesture to make our president Massimo Moriatti understand that we care about Inter."
"The President has supported us in every moment. And we wanted to make a concrete gesture in return."

Recoba is the best-paid player in Italy, reportadly earning a £5m salary, while Ronaldo is estimated to be on £3m."

-----

How about that then - footballers taking up on the chance to earn LESS!!
But it all makes sense when you realise it'll only be 5%, and that it is their club (who gives them their money) that is in danger.
And it's not like Inter are just gunna let the trio go ANYwhere for ANY kind of fee! So they're stuck there.

Still, it's a nice idea and something that the youngsters looking upto these guys should take note of.
But if they were really that serious about Internazionale, they'd be asking for something more like a 50% pay-cut! Surely??

Hopefully other European clubs will learn from this, and that the likes of Beckham who really *DO* their love their club will try to convince others (aswell as themselves) that footballers really are getting payed way too much - once and for all!

Yeah, I reckon they'll also probably only keep this up untill they're clear of the Red Zone anyway - knowing footballers!

But at least they're showing they're younger idols that it's not all about money - well, a LOAD of money anyway...
