Everyone thinks Michael Schumacher is so great. Yes he does win loads of F1 GP's but that’s nothing. We all know an F1 victory is mainly down to the technology and not the driver. Yes, Schumacher is good, but put him in a Minardi and he would most likely end up with the same results as Mark Webber. So what’s my point here you may ask? Well without a doubt, motorbike racing has to be one of the hardest and most challenging motor sports there is. Whether it’s Moto GP, The Isle of Man TT, or Super Bikes, each requires a high level of stamina, skill, and concentration.

Being a bit of a bikes fan myself, I do like watching the racing on the TV. It’s clear to see from watching, that the likes of Troy Baliss and Max Biaggi are truly great sportsmen. But there is one person that stands out from the pack and is hard to ignore. Over his short career he’s already said to be the greatest Moto GP racer ever. Who am I talking about? Valentino Rossi of course!

The young Italian is only 22 years old and has already won 46 GP’s and also taken the 125cc, 250cc and 500cc titles. Such achievements are so great for such an early stage in his career. He doesn’t look like he is going to back down either. This season he is again racing for the Repsol Honda Racing team and out of 8 races he has won 7, his other result being a second place in Africa. In the season standings he is 87 points over his closest rival, Tohru Ukawa. Pretty remarkable.

One thing you have to admire about this lad is his determination. Recently Rossi took place in his 100th GP. Unfortunately he had a bad crash in practice from which he picked up bruised ribs, concussion, and a badly broken thumb. Most sportsmen such as David Beckham would be sidelined for weeks with such injuries. However, Rossi, against all advice, decided to continue with the racing and unbelievably not only broke the all time track record around Donnington on a 500cc bike the day later, but also took pole position in qualifying and also went on to win the race. Incredible. In any other sport you wouldn’t even expect the sportsmen to contend, let alone perform as well as Rossi did.

Valentino Rossi has to be the best man in sport at the moment. He has great determination that would shame any crybaby footballer. He certainly has won me over and I am sure he will continue to pick up fans throughout a hopefully continuous career of success.

Anybody else have a sportsperson who they think are special? If so who? And who agrees Valentino is top class?
