in a jumpsuit is there some potential for the Xbox. The reason that Dreamcast games look so good is that programmers can get right down to the guts of the machine talking to the CPU and the graphics accelerator directly. They dont have to worry about what kind hardware is going to be there. Contrast this with what todays Windows game developer has to go through. Imagine making a game where you dont know what processor, sound card, video card, or how much RAM the box is going to have. That's got to be a nightmare even if DirectX and system API's are supposed to take care of it all.... So the Xbox has a 700 Mhz CPU, and a next generation Nvidia graphics coprocessor, whilethis doesnt blow many PC specs out of the water it does give you an idea of the potential. If a Dreamcast with a 200 Mhz CPU can pump out better than PC quality games, imagine what a 700 Mhz Xbox with a dedicated graphics coprocessor can do.... Many programmers should feel right at home with the Xbox's development environment which is similar to Microsoft's DirectX API's. Development systems are in the hands of developers right now that use the Geforce2 GTS and special drivers that let the GeForce emulate the Graphics processor in the coming Xbox. This lets developers get games ready for the Xbox long before the system is even in production. What this means for you is that there should be a large choice of software ready to go when the system makes its debut. The other HUGE bonus for developers is the money they will save on tech support issues. How many tech support calls do you think that Sega got for Sonic the Hedgehog versus the number of support calls id got for Quake3 arena? Making games for a locked platform eliminates the support calls for "Yo the game doesnt work with my Bitboys boomswang 3d ultra"....

That won't last that much longer, most of them aren't getting anything back.

console power is nothing. It's what is done with it that counts. Hence, despite the 'hard to develop' ps2, big developers are pumping loads into development.

The x box is a new console
we haven't seen the silghtest of what an x box can do,
except perhaps halo.
Just because no new consoles are on the horizon doesn't mean we aren't going to see a hell of a lot more from the x box as we will
it is just a little shy and slow to get going.
God knows why i saw a preowned x-box for sale in gamestation,
Money laundering perhaps?
