Can anyone point me in the right direction - what software do I need for secure payments etc. Something idiot proof!
I have used version 3 of Cubecart no problem on getdotted and this supports paypal:

If you want to take payments and you are using Freeola hosting then you have to use a 3rd party payment provider such as PayPal or Nochex.
Out hosting doesn't support the use of SSL certificates, which you'd need if you were going to take card payments directly on your site.
Paypal is probably the most popular choice. You can sign up with them and then make buttons and forms that when clicked send the user through to Paypal to pay for the item and then Paypal redirects back to your site when done.
We may support SSL in the future but you'd have to know what you are doing to use that.
Our Instant Sites Designer will have the ability in the future to create a shopping cart system. It's our intention to allow a variety of payment gateways and we would take care of the SSL for you.

You are better using a script/software that connects to Paypal surely :) Many do these days, just check the features.
