Just been rading about this game and its shaping up to be very impressive. :-)
Its a first person shooter and it looks like it has a Counter-Strike style play to it in that your hunting down terrorists.
Whats looking so good about it though besides the high level of AI, is the detail thats going into the game.
As you walk through the open jungle areas, you flatten vegetation which not only looks nice, but can be used to track enemies as they do the same. So for all those that have wanted to walk around acting like Billy in Predator, now you can. ;-)
Apparently grenades can also be used to blow holes in the ground that can be used as mini trenches to avoid enemy fire and both sides can hide among the trees so its harder to be spotted. :-)

Apparently the detail is so good that you can even disturb the birds in the trees and make them all fly off if your not careful which no doubt works for both sides as an indication that someone is near by.
The deformability of the terrain sounds good though, haven't really seen this since Red Faction.
The game seems to put you in a squad rather than throwing you in alone so you can expect people to be shouting out orders while your in the middle of a firefight.
Looks damn good so far. :-)

Yeah I'm hoping for more battlefield scenes and more moments of teaming up with marines in Halo 2. :-)
Be great if your part of a particular squad as it adds more of a personal touch to things and will probably make you care about the survival of your marines a lot more. :-)

I think the FPS genre is really shining at the moment with the atmosphere it offers and the AI that is being created for both allies and enemies.
I think its really a matter of a developer just taking what the players love most and giving it to them a lot more. What I'm talking about is the beach landings and huge scale battles (especially with vehicles involved).

When I hear people praising these games it tends to be moments like that that stick out in their comments. I mean its fun to sneak into a structure and take on the world like Rambo, but I don't think it even closely matches the atmosphere of being in a large scale battle as you take cover and work your way forward while watching your allies and enemies getting shot to hell.
What I'd love to see in Halo is a huge battle with dropships constantly dropping off more troops and even getting shot down while trying. A battlefield littered with wrecks of vehicles and barricades to get behind for some cover.

I think the only genre that is really developing as well as the FPS is the RPG with games such as Project Ego and Star Wars Galaxies on the way.

I love the pure atmosphere of the genre, especially Halo going into the foggy jungle.

And while your at it you might wanna add Far Cry Nomad. ;-))

I've always liked FPS games, but they wre never my "favourite" type of game. But with the way they've evolved over the past couple of years they're actually one of my favourite genres now.

Theres very little for me that matches the feeling of being part of a large team in a battlefield with plenty of freedom to adapt tactics. I find games such as Halo and Counter-Strike a lot more adrenaline pumping and fun than a lot of other games. :-)
