As we probably all know Sony lost millions of pounds through videogame piracy on the playstation. This was probably the single biggest mistake sony ever made, as the playstation was easy to chip and anyone with a GCE in electronics and a soldering iron could do it.
Now, one would have thought that with the imminent release of the PS2, sony would have made sure this could NOT happen again.

Not true.

I have it on fairly good authority that PS2s are in fact EASIER to chip than playstations. I myself in fact have several times come across mod chips and security breakdown disks for sale on the internet. Apparently the PS2 runs on a system similar to the windows operating system ( reputedly very easy to break into).

However the real question is what are sony going to do about this? the 200,000 PS2s being released are going to be easy to chip ( apparently- don't quote me on this ) but will the ones released later be changed in some way?
It's possible but highly unlikely that sony will change the whole operating system, but more likely they will include more security checks- at the cost of a longer loading time.

Personally I believe their mistake can be rectified if it is caught early enough.

Anyone have any ideas/thoughts?

I think sony make enough already personally...

Though I hear that there will bea new checking system in new ps2's which will only detect, then when you play online it'll basically grass you up like a muddy lawn, then someone can do nasty things to your bank balance when you're rumbled and all will be well in the land of overpaid executive industry. Joy.
