During the break between halfs of the Man Utd match last night I finally saw an advert that mention the PS2 (it was for FIFA 2001). There was also a really good advert for MSR on the Dreamcast.

The reason I am starting this topic is because I want to know what you all think about game advertising on the TV.

I personally get really annoyed that there are not more adverts for games. The Dreamcast ad campaign before its release was very good but I never saw it anywhere but at the cinema. Why cant they put more ads on the TV?? If we have to sit through endless Argos adverts at this time of year why cant Sony/Nintendo/Sega take pity on us and chuck some game adverts on.

Surely at this time of year it is definately worth their while!!

On a related topic, do you think that the adverts should show the game and not something completely unrelated?? I personally prefer adverts where you see the in game graphics at least half of the time. Now that in game graphics are of such a high standard there is no reason why they cant be used to sell the product.

Dont get me wrong I liked the Sega 'We all play games, why dont we play together' adverts but I think they should have contained some snippets of games as well.

Advertising works and I for one would much rather watch ads for MSR, FIFA, Zelda (even though the last ad campaign was a bit sexist) than any more coffee ads!!!

The Dreamcast and PS2 games are such high deinition that they will lend themselves to TV advertising.

If Sony had shown footage of Gran Turismo 2 on PS1 for example all us serious gamers would have remembered just how blocky everything looks on the PS1. Instead I think they mainly used pre-rendered video for that advertising campaign.

No excuses now for not showing proper game footage because that's what we buy the games for!

There should definitely be more game ads on TV. They should show in game shots, and not FMV though!
