Apocalypse Now is more similar to Heart Of Darkness than just the "bloke goes up river to catch mad colonel" similarity and it's a pretty good book if you don't mind facing up to what the Europeans did to Africa. The bit with the severed heads is the same, as is the fact that someone sets up their won little kingdom, the ideas of conquest, state of mind, peace e.t.c are all similar - as it was Vietnam was a total different type of conflict to that in 19th century Africa....at least the two sides actually fought, unlike the European conquest of Africa.....as well, history !

I read a children's book called the Giver yesterday, which was surprisingly good, and now it's a toss up between JT Leroy and Ham on Rye..

Whats rubbish about it?

Its an evocative look into humanity, that is quite heavy at times, but an intersting read.

won't bother reading it then. I'm on book 4 of the rather superb Gap series at the moment, and I doubt anything will stop me from moving on to the Thomas Covenant books after that.

Joseph Conrad "Heart of Darkness"

They based Apocalypse Now on it, although it's nothing like it apart from basic "bloke goes up river to catch mental colonel" and the names.

It's rubbish

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
