Scooby Doo is loved by millions world wide, despite the fact that nearly every episode was the same and was more predictable than anything seen before it. People loved following the spooky exploits of Scooby, Shaggy (No relation to the musician), Fred, Daphne, Velma and the puppy you loved to hate Scrappy Doo. But how will people feel about these cartoon teams turned movie stars?
So you don’t care about all this stuff, you already know that, so I am going to go on to the movie and my views.
You remember the Flintstones movies don’t you? Or have you mentally blocked them out of your mind? Me and many other people just hoped that SD wouldn’t turn out like they did, but did it?
I remember back in the casting stage of SD when there were rumours of Dustin Diamond (Mr Screech Powers of Saved by the bell fame) in talks of taking the role of Shaggy. I thought he would be perfect for the part, and was a bit confused when he didn’t get it. But now I have seen the movie, I know why he came up short. Matthew Lillard is Shaggy. There is no one more suited for the part than him. The voice is spot on as well as the facial and body actions and reactions. His performance is one of the highlights of the film. Sarah Michelle Gellar does a good job as bimbo Daphne, but I cant help but think it was a bit out of character to have her become a black belt in Karate so she can defend herself. That sort of stuff works better in things like Buffy. Also I think they could have got her hair colour a little bit more like her cartoon counterpart. But apart from that she gives quite a good performance in her short outfits, all with matching accessories. Freddie Prinze Jr is in as Fred, and I wonder how he got that role? Hmmm. Linda Cardellini does quite an accurate performance of Velma but her voice just seems to sound more like Daria's than Velma’s.
The movie shows the characters how we have always thought of them. Fred loves himself, Daphne is the bimbo in distress, Velma might have more to her than just brains and shaggy is the peace-loving hippy. But it is my sad duty to tell you that Scrappy Doo does appear briefly in the movie. But the creators must understand that everyone hates him, and so ending up with the Mystery team hating him too in the film.
The story is this...The Mystery Inc breaks up after a clash of egos and all go their separate ways. Except Shaggy and Scooby of course, as friends don’t quit. Two years later each member is separately called to solve a mystery at every college kids favourite spring break destination...Spooky Island. When they arrive the resort owner played by Rowan Atkinson (Hey Kids it's Mr Bean!) gets them to join forces for what could well be the last mission of their lives. What follows is the gang’s exploration of the Island, themselves (Not in a porn movie kind of way) and friendship. Will the gang be able to put their differences aside in order to solve the mystery? Well...go watch the movie... I can’t really tell you much more as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone.
The movie is packed full of jokes for both kids and adults alike. There are references to the cartoon series and also to more adult topics...if you want to know what I’m on about...well Shaggy's girlfriend is called Mary Jane. Work that one out for yourself. Scooby and Shaggy really carry this movie whether their having farting contests, talking about friendship, running scared or are just doo-ing what they do most...eating.
I personally love this movie and have already watched it twice. If you loved the cartoon as a kid, or if were one of them people who didn’t watch it (if there are any people like that out there that is) then you should find at least some enjoyment from the movie. Whether you’re into gazing at the CGI Scooby, the Ghostbuster like looking monsters or Sarah Michelle Gellar, you will be enjoying yourself. It's fun, funny, and just plain damn good. They didn’t mess it up by putting in too many cheesy looking CGI effects (I'm looking at you Spiderman...), it is just good, clean, summer movie fun that may even bring back some memories of the good old days when we could watch a cartoon and not think it was weird that the dog was talking. Just because it looks camp and lame doesn't mean it sucks, it really is good.
Go see it and enjoy and by the way you may be expecting a real predictable movie, well it's not. It has a very surprising plot twist...unless you have read or been told about it already.
Scoooooby Dooooooooo
-Now all we need is a Hong Kong Phooey movie and we'll be sorted
Thanks for reading
CDouch
Because he is scared of Rhosts!
I heard that apparently there is no normal explanation to the problem in the film? Is this true? If so then it can't be good. The whole point of Scooby Doo was that it wasn't zombies or mummies it was the only man they met in the episode and he would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids.
And if anyone was to blame was it Rowan Atkinson? As he seems to be the only other person in it...
Thanks SR, I need some new games...
> Yup that movie rules and i will be getting the DVD too. I see the

I think region2 is out at the same time well looking at play.com it is which makes sence.
Many dvd companys are now doing reg 1 + 2 together as is suppose to cut down on pirates etc .
Oh it was cheap too something like £11.99 I believe
Come on someone most have something to say about the movie...
So did it turn out like the Flinstones movie? Well...no, no it didn't. The Flinstones movies sucked, Scooby Doo was good and stayed true to it's roots which is something that Fred and family just couldnt seem to do.
