Freeloader (Datel) is a device that will allow PAL GameCubes to play NTSC games, both japanese and american ones, or anywhere else.
Although details are scarce at the moment I would guess it uses a disc OR a memory card. I doubt it would include both (you may have to supply your own memory card) due to the cheap price. My guess is it's just a disc and will take up space on your card, AS WELL as the import game saves.
What this will do to the PAL industry is uncertain as yet, as it is not released. I doubt it will make much of a difference as many consider importing to be too much hassle. I however am eager to snatch up Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness and Mario Sunshine up before i go back to school.
The Freeloader is released on:
20th July
and is to be priced around
£17
no news as yet to whether SR are selling it. My guess is they won't.
Now is the perfect time to get interested in the importing scene, as Freeloader has made it so easy to get going on it. Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil are both great and don't come out in ages, and Mario Sunshine is out on the 22nd July i think (my birthday : D )
Import games are getting cheaper now, you can pick up a FreeLoader and USA Resi for around £60.
So there's the info if you didn't know. If you get more info please post!

But then again I might just wait longer - I'm in a bit of debt after just buying a new electric guitar.
It's no specific, just Early August.
The release date has not been delayed at all as there never has been one set. The companies claiming they've spoken to Datel were lying and just trying to get more sales out of gullible people who believed them. The only release information Datel were giving out in the past was Summer 2002.
Or maybe the Freeloader will include something so when you save the NTSC prgram onto the card, it automatically formats the card to NTSC... or something like that...
With my modded unit, it's required to have two memory cards. One to save US games on and another to save JPN games on.
I'm wondering if this would apply to the Freeloader?
Particularly whether or not you need a TV that supports that 60Hz mode, because all NTSC games run in 60Hz right...? So I'm assuming you need a 60Hz compatible telly... and I tested mine with Rogue Leader, and the picture was fine... shame I had no sound though...
Hmmm...

I was going to point that out, but the site went funky again.
I might get the freeloader, i'm not sure yet. Good idea though.
:D
