I just need to know what parts I need to build a basic PC. I must have, obviously,

Case
Motherboard
Hard Disk
CD-ROM/RW/DVD-ROM plus floppy etc
CPU

But my mind is blank for everything else. So what else would I need as in internal stuff like components rather than printer etc?

Plus if anyone has some advice for an idiot trying to put a PC together I'd be mighty grateful

Well actually, when planes are refuelled at a high speed, static presents a real risk, so both people and the fuel lines are earthed. That's because if there is enough static to generate a spark then all the fuel would ignite and it wouldn't be pretty.

Computer's are actually quite easy to build, just so long as you get the right stuff and know where everything goes. For instance make sure that you get a motherboard that's compatible with whatever processor you get. One thing tht it might be worth doing, is getting a computer builder person to buy the components from a trade outlet, because this will wind up much cheaper than getting them from PC World, even if he charges some sort of commission, and then you can put the stuff together yourself and save on the labour costs.

Oh and try not to screw things in until your sure everything is working. There's nothing more annoying than having everything in place, and having screwed the case back on, to find that something's not right and you need to unscrew everything and start looking for the problem.

Make sure you put everything together properly and protect yourself againt static, also when built if you get any errors beeps just try re-seating components.

Lights. Fans. Strobes. Muahaha.

Otherwise...decent PSU, and make sure you've got enough cables (IDE).
