I read many discussions bemoaning the way European gamers are treated in general, high prices, late releases, games not released in some cases. But I wonder is this all about to change. Microsoft plan to have a world release, with X-Box being released everywhere on the same day, and Global releases for games. If this comes to fruition and is successful, surely other companies will have to follow suit. The support of X-Box seems positive with many developers expressing interest in developing for the X-Box more so than any other machine, and they claim it is about 3 times more powerful than the PS2. I know most of the western companies have yet to give support to X-Box (Squaresoft, Namco etc) but the situation in Japan is changing. At the last Tokyo Game Show, again attendance’s were down, this seems to be commonplace now as the Japanese economy is in a poor state. So what does this mean? Well as Europe seems to be going from strength to strength, the Japanese seem to be loosening their stranglehold on the Computer Game industry. When the developers realise this they will have no choice but to recognise Europe as a Gaming Force.
So hopefully the future, will be European.
