> But I'd strongly recommend getting the Psone game Breath of Fire 4
You'll be glad to hear Breath of Fire is coming out on the PS2 :) The trailer on IGN looks very good, very cel-shaded, and very playable.
There are quite a few RPGs for the PS2 but there's so many sub-genres to RPG now (do you want isometric statty type turn based battles or do you want first person perspective slash 'em with the biggest sword you can find type RPG?).
Suikoden III is on it's way (very simple RPG but very addictive, over 100 characters to collect and a base to maintain), so is Skies of Arcadia (greatest RPG ever to hit the Dreamcast). Sega have now pushed back SOA's release to 2003/2004 so you'll have to wait a while.
If you want the best out there early you'll either have to move to Japan to play in the Beta trials of Final Fantasy XI Online or upgrade your PC and enrol to play Star Wars Galaxies, because the chances of Sony Europe coming to an agreement about their online services for the PS2 in Europe within the next couple of years is doubtful.
Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance and Drakan The Ancients' Gates are both out now, but for me they were too restrictive, too many limits on how you could develop your characters, I prefer the practically neverending upgrades in games like Diablo II (PC) or Final Fantasy XI (PS2) or Legend of Mir (MMORPG).
Then there's Tomb Raider: AOD coming out in a few months, which whilst more an action/adventure/platformer rather than RPG it still has a few RPG elements.
My most awaited RPG is Dungeon and Dragons: Heroes due out in early 2003 (probably September 2003 now that I've said that), which uses 3rd edition D&D rules and is essentially true RPG goodness from what I've heard.
Meantime I'll carry on levelling up in Legend of Mir and Final Fantasy X, and maybe play Grandia II now and again as I never finished it (I've got the DC version but got distracted by FFX), as those are the only good ones out there at present.

i dint like ff8 that much. the best ff so far is 7 but the best rpg so far is vagrant story for ps1
> I would suggest Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance - Its a great game!
it's got slight rpg elements in it....but it's not REALLY an rpg...it's more an action adventure hack and slash game
I think I'll work my way through all the old FFs (4-9) - that should give me about...oooh...23,354,989 hours of play!
But FF9 was rather good...
