For the DC, this one, remember the Pokemon card trading game? Where have you been? Or the trading card element from Final Fantasy VIII? Well, why not have a trading card game on the DC? The good thing is, you could start with a basic 500 cards to collect, with new editions being released on the Web by Sega at regular (6 monthly?) intervals.
As well as being able to trade or play for these 'Electronic Trading Cards (ECT's) online, you could play against computer generated characters on the disc itself, or you could use the VMU to trade/play against your mates.
The cards could be of anything, but fantasy characters are probably best because this should be a worldwide appeal, not just football players or classic postage stamps, although there is nothing to stop Sega releasing limited editions of these to appeal to different audiences. There could be 'one off' cards, limited editions, secret cards hidden on websites affiliated with Sega, cards you could download from the main site, and competitons to win cards on a regular basis.
The only thing left is to sort out the 'game' of playing for cards itself, but this could be along the lines of Pokemon as long as it was not too obvious a copy. Perhaps Sega should bring in a team of, say, Terry Pratchett and Ian Livingstone to discuss the trading and game options, and go from there.
This idea is now copyrighted to Fantasymeister, it's that good.

Or you could create your own cards ( you would get a certain amount of attribute points and use a digital camera to photograph yourself) then there would be near unlimited cards to collect.

Novel idea 2: Guess what, NO manual comes with the game! It has it's own in-built training mode, where the computer teaches you how to play the game, what commands you can give, and you can practise in an arena against VR opponents until you pass the required standards of a Newbie ECT Collector. From there you can go into the game proper. The manual is built into the software, which you can access at anytime, like pressing F1 on a PC for help. The game will come on just one disc, containing all you need to get up and running. The spare space can be taken up by the ECT Guide, listing the 500 first edition ECT's that are there to collect, and pointing out salient facts, like the rarer cards that are sometimes available, where they may be found etc.
(Hey, SCEE, are you reading this?)

I've just thought of improvements: When you are playing in tournament mode for cards against players or the computer, your cards come 'alive', and you can have turn based or real time battles a la Final Fantasy battle sequences, with your card character in fully animated 3D. Wow, where can I buy this game?
