But did that so called "better console" ever arrive? I had my PS2 for 8 months and out of that time I only ever got enjoyment out of 2 games, GTA3 and MGS2. The time came when I decided that the console was not developing enoh quality titles so I traded it in for an Xbox. After owning an Xbo for 10 weeks I can sefely say that I have had more enjoyment out of it than I did in 8 months with my PS2. My friends have done the same, not with Xbox's (bar 1) but they have traded their PS2's for GameCube's and they don't regret doing so.
Last week I purchased a Dreamcast with Shenmue and it makes MGS2 look like Tetris Worlds. The PS2 had a very poor launch in terms of good releases, it was hard to get hold of and if you wanted one you would have to pay £850 (well in my area anyway, people were pre ordering then selling on) it was all hype and nothing else.
The PS2 is not better than the Dreamcast, the Dreamcast can equal the PS2 with graphics (check Code Veronica on both systems, SONY have made a big mistake this time around in my opinion as they expect the name alone to sell the console but people are changing their minds. In my opinion the PS2 was nothing but an over hyped console with a handful of quality releases and a house full of poor ones, I felt ripped off! Next time around I will wait for the Xbox 2 instead of jumping on the SONY band-wagon, I have learnt my lesson this time, a rather expensive lesson but still a good one!

I agree. When I was still at school one of my mates bought a Dreamcast and I told him he was daft and that he should wait for the PS2. I told him that when the PS2 was released the Dreamcast would fail, as it has in some ways. But me being a very impatient person I got a Dreamcast to see what all the fuss was about and I liked it from the first time I played it and I really dont understand why it failed. Anyway I waited on the PS2 release and bought one about 6 months after its release after I had saved enough cash and it is a good console but I do honestly believe that it is way over-hyped. It is a powerful machine but the games available arnt up to the standard I was expecting. The only game I really enjoy playing is GTA3 but I feel a lot of games are just cheap cash-ins.

my friend had a dreamcast and a PS1. He soon put the dreamcast in the corner to pick up dust. Then I asked him one day If I could have a lend of it, its back in that corner... nuff said.
The price of the console was worth it just to play Shenmue and Jet Set Radio.
Bad marketing.
SEGA's console history - i.e. the mess-ups with the 32x and MegaCD etc.
-and others which I can't think of right now....
But the main reason is that the vast majority of gamers preferred to wait for the over-hyped PS2.... damn shame - I loved the Dreamcast....
*walks off gutted*
