i went into my local "game" store the other day, and wandered to myself "will there be any 2nd hand xbox games" and there were lots e.g fifa, maz payne, ermm spider-man and HALO. i thought who would trade in halo its a classic even after you complete it you can just play it again and again. anyway i will get back to the point do you think it is worth buying a new game for say 40-45 quid or would you just get it 2nd hand for £30 and risk it haveing scratches etc etc

Thing is, where I get my games from (Gamestation, it's the cheapest near me) the brand new games don't have a wrapper, or that seal on. So it's just like buying a used game. I asked them about this once, and they say all their copies are like this, to save storage space, so the boxes can be out on display instead of taking up space in the cuboard. They just have to keep small disks in the cuboard.

The used games from there don't have writing on them either. If they did, I would tell them where to stuff their game. So, buying a perfect condition used game from there, is exactly the same as buying a brand new game from there. Apart from the obvious price difference.

Which is why I don't mind used games. Afterall, it's still the same gaming experience.

I tend to stick to buying brand new games. Besides the risk of scratches and and instruction books that have been used as placement mats, toilet roll, etc, I don't like the way shops like Game tend to write damn number on the books and boxes. I know that sounds petty but it takes away a nice part of getting a new game. ;-)) Guess I'm just a git like that - can't walk out with a game thats done as many rounds a porn star. ;-))

As for seeing Halo on the 2nd hand shelf, it might be down to the MS reward pack. Some already have the games on the list or didn't want the ones on offer, so they just asked for 2 games that will hold a good price and not drop in value so they can trade them in for a game they want. Some shops are doing a 2 for 1 deal where you give them your 2 games and change them for a game you want. In a way though its crafty and even cheeky in a way. They act as though they're doing you a big favour and when you give them the games, cause they're still wrapped they can sell them as brand new instead of second hand while you walk away with one game.

Mind you, saying that, I'll be doing the trade in cause I really don't want the 2 games I've got, so I'm gonna get Hunter : The Reckoning next week. I was gonna keep Blood Wake and NBA Inside Drive but NBA turned out to be pretty cack and although I would have kept Blood Wake for the sake of it, I don't think I'll really play it much with all the quality titles starting to appear now so I thought I might as well get rid of it.

The plastic encasing is the best part of every new game. Without it... It's just...Just a second hand game with no wrapper... :(

I bought Halo second hand, as I wasn't sure if I'd like it, so didn't want to risk spending too much money on it.

I decided that if it had so much as one scratch about 1cm long, I would not buy it. Also, the store had three copies of it, so I made them get all three so I could choose the best one :D

I ended up with a PERFECT second hand copy of Halo. And saved myself £15 too. Nice. All I missed was the little wrapper.
