1.if you are bored don't muck about because certain people get very stressed!
2.don't bother trying to run services such as voting charts. people lose interest quickly.
3.good topics are short term topics such as recent news or something quirky that you have noticed in a game.
4.if you are going to write a story, make it a spoof. serious stories are just forgotten!
5. don't make new posts as soon as you enter, watch for a bit and then post.
if you make any other observations to help newbies, post them here!

i know it sounds sad and quite teacher like, but i learnt from my mistake and so felt compelled to keep other newbies out of my predicament so i wrote this.
