This is a part of an adult game, that can either make it. Or brake it. I have seen lots of blood and gore in my time. All great fun. All good. Well, you see. We have, different "Types" of blood and gore, you have, the Quake "Type" which is pixels of blood showering off until the object in front of your barrel explodes into chunks. Not very realistic, but its "Over Gored" if you know what I mean. Loads of blood and the exploding chunks, just really goes to the extreme. But it suits the game. Its alienified. Aliens. Big futuristic weapons. It suits the game.
Then, we have. The Max Payne effect. Which is the closest I have come to actual blood. It showers off, in sort of, "Clouds" if you know what I mean. Anyone who has played Max Payne will understand. This is the more realistic type of blood. Which, also, suits the game.
Thats my little rant on blood. Everyone's for realism. We're always looking for the most realistic game. Because, it makes the playing time seam real. Or make you believe it.
Now, blood, and gore. Has been worked on alot, and tweaked and worked on a bit more. And yeah, it normally looks good. But. What are they forgetting? Hm? Ever seen a bone poking through the skin? No, nor have I. After shooting someone in the head, and watching them collapse in a heap bones and skin. Did you ever see a whole in the head? Maybe some brains coming out a bit? No? Nor have I.
This may sound a little extreme. But, if a games rated 18. Then MAKE it 18!
I have never seen attempted suicides well. You are a fighting machine. Picked from the best of the best, picked to be in a special star squad. You think your the bees knees. Think again, you friend has just been killed, along with 15 others out of your 20 man team. Leaving you protecting this nuclear bomb, with 4 people. 5 including yourself. Scared? Hell yeah! So why not just kill yourself? Hm? You know you WILL die a horrible dead anyway. So why dont we see the occasional dead person with a gun in their hand. Slumped against a wall. Blood all over the ceiling and you can see the entry point. He topped himself off. Its not nice, but you think "Hm. Cool.."
If you got shot in the knee cap. It would shatter. Leaving you moaning, in extreme pain on the floor. Do we see this in games? No. I want too!!
Now. Dealing with blood and gore. How about some AI improvement. You burst into a room which you know will be full of people. You are prepared. Dual Desert Eagles by your side. You burst in, firing away. You catch all of them. Walking through the heaps dead bodies, picking up various weapons and the such. Boom. Your dead. How? Well, you thought you caught everyone was dead right? Think again. He was pretending to be dead. Waiting for you to walk by, saving all of his last remaining energy, just before he died. He pops you in the back of the head. Clever? Damn straight!
Ah well, next time you blow away some worthless enemy standing in your way, just watch the way the blood comes out, the way he fall to the floor.
GasMask. GasMask1 :o)

YAY!
TUROK - The suicide enemies!
RESIDENT EVIL GAMECUBE - The lovely particle effects on the skull, brains and blood. Hmmm...
DEUS EX - Body-Area sensitive damage!
Yay!
What better way is there to spend an afternoon than seeing any of the following?
- watching the Cerebral Bore spewing blood and brain fluid onto the floor then exploding, thereby taking the enemy's head clean off.
- setting Proximity Fragmentation Mines around then watching ruthless Dinosoids getting there legs blown off... then laughing yourself stupid as you watch them wriggle around legless (HA!).
- shooting a Raptor's head so that it flies off, then watching the Raptor stagger around for a few seconds in the manner of a headless chicken.
- shooting a Pur-Linn Warclub in the chest then giggling as you discover that you've blown a hole straight through him and you can see what's going on at the other side.
Get the picture?
LET'S SEE MORE TUROK GORE!
Forget that I said that.
Or something.

Well to be honest mate, I don't think a lot of us have actually shot someone in the head to compare notes.
Funny to remember DOOM actually. I'm sure plenty will remember this - you shoot a bad guy and kill him, then when you circle him, the body actually spins round too cause you only get to see the one viewpoint of the corpse. ;-))
Nah, I love FPS and realistic shooting games, and gore is certainly needed, as long as it's not too much. More detail could certainly be added. Like some guy half-dead, and you walk past him and he asks you to finish him off. You have the choice. Even better, it's your best friend lying there. {:)
