1. Interactivity : The character you play in the game should be able to interact fully and easily with his/her/its surroundings, with the controls being intuitive & easy to master, and the control-pad being unobtrusive.
2. Exploration : The games designer should make a virtual area, whether it is a race-track, 3D-level, or even a single screen like in SSBM, that is fun to explore and interact with.
3. Challenge : The game should have that learning-curve that Nintendo do so well, which keeps you challenged and enjoying the game whilst continually pushing you forward, and also giving you the feeling that you are learning and getting better at the game.
4. Gameplay : Again, something that Nintendo excel in. Games should be FUN....something a lot of developers tend to forget...and the game should be constructed around rules/conditions that allow the player to enjoy themselves.
5. Graphics : The graphics should reflect the tone & atmoshere of a game with the developer making good use of the graphics of the machine, whatever its 'power'.
These are just my own (probably quite idiosyncratic) 'Top 5' important game attributes...Anyone agree/disagree?
Cheers all,
