Leeds cave in on Fergie bid for Rio
Rio Ferdinand looks to be heading out of Elland Road - with the Elland Road outfit close to accepting £35 for their England hero. Old Trafford boss Alex Ferguson has made central defender Ferdy, 23, his number one target and knows Leeds will find it hard to refuse a British record transfer fee.

Lucio added to list
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has added Brazilian Lucio to his list of targets alongside (Rio) Ferdinand and Lilian Thuram. The 24-year-old central defender has been a key player during Brazil's opening to the World Cup. And he could become Ferguson's priority signing if Ferdinand's stock continues to soar. Lucio, full name Lucimar Ferreira da Silva, is being courted by several top Continental clubs, including Champions League winners Real Madrid, after an excellent season for Bayer Leverkusen.

Rio's move on hold
Rio Ferdinand has put on hold any big-money move to Manchester United for the good of his country. The Leeds defender has been advised to put out of his mind a £30 million move to Old Trafford and concentrate on attempting to win the World Cup. Express Sport can reveal that Ferdinand's agent has spoken to Sven Goran Eriksson and the player at England's hotel.

Danes taunt Becks
The Danes have told Posh Spice that her husband will be home at the weekend. Cocky Danish newspaper BT reckons David Beckham and his England boys will by beaten by Denmark tomorrow. They have sent a cheeky message to Victoria Beckham, telling her to expect the England captain to be returning through the front door on Sunday.

Keane can still make final cut
Roy Keane continues to appear on FIFA's official list for the Republic of Ireland's World Cup squad of 23. Keane, sent home in disgrace, is still officially part of the squad and, in theory, could be recalled at any time.

Jesper looks back to future
Jesper Olsen is backing Denmark to turn back the clock and see off England. The ex-Manchester United winger played in the Danes' 1-0 win in 1983, their only victory against England.

Fergie all for Diego
Alex Ferguson tips Diego Forlan's World Cup wonder goal to do the trick and help him emerge from the Old Trafford shadows. The Uruguayan is still waiting for his first United goal, but lashed home a corking 25-yard volley in the 3-3 draw with Senegal. Ferguson said: "I was delighted when Diego scored. The boy has deserved that. I think we at United could benefit from it."

I wouldn't believe either of these for the simple reason that the two papers are reknown for making up stories. As per usual Manchester United have been linked with anyone that has played well in the World Cup to the point that their squad number list will range from 1 to 1000 which will take up more space on the shirt than the name Van Nistelrooy.
