''we rang every majr highstreet chain in search of PS2s but the initial stock of 200,000 have all been reserved. most retailers reckon they wont be gettin anymore until march. we hav reason to believe sony europe may get hold of another batch b4 christmas. if it happens, those machines will go to another round of preordering rather the straight to the shelves. some shops have already set up a qyeing list where u can put u'r name down for a PS2 as they become availiable on a first come, first serve basis. this is down to individual outlets and we suggest you sign-up as soon as possible to maxamise your chances of getting a machine as soon as possible.

In my ghost town, when it comes to games anyway, I'm still expecting to see a few on shelves when I walk into Woolworths...

If I see any, I'll tell you where I am...

Of course, you may not like the hundreds of miles you have to drive to reach me...

(Then running out of petrol on a country lane, and having to stay in the "Thraves Motel.")

That would be a rather scary thought...

My advice is, try smaller outlets and not the major highstreet giants like game, as Sony are at the moment favouring these small shops.I know this for a fact, as I've done some research in my area and found this to be very true!!!!!!ARTY

From what I can make out from the pre-ordering process Sony have employed a very successful marketing technique, All the hype over the PS2 being short in supply has raised it's profile considrabley, this gets future customers who are looking to purchase a PS2 early next year putting their names down on a highstreet chain or wholesalers private pre- order list, this form would then be replaced by an official Sony form. The customers who had originally put their name down on the Private Shop list would then pay the deposit (£20+). Then next March when another large batch is produced the customers will pay for the machines, but sony could leave the price at £299, this would force the people who had pre-ordered to either pay the £299 or lose their £20+ deposit.

I could be wrong, but I doubt very much if Sony will leave 35,000 (very annoyed) customers with official pre-order forms without a PS2 after christmas, if I did not get mine I before christmas i would consider buying the futer Sony consoles!

Sony have said that for months that they MAY be able to, and able is the key word. Due to the hardware shortages, I seriously doubt any more will trun up, but you never know.

Right pulsed is it... the pre-order system initiated by sony will officially end on November 10- exactly 2 weeks before release date. After that date, it will be pre-orders from individual shops and one their terms only. Also, there is nil chance of any more PS2s being available for Christmas above the initial 200,000 as there is now a worldwide shortage of the graphics synthesiser chip which is at the heart of the emotion and the company that makes them cannot keep up with worldwide demand. Most people on here(and ant hopefully I might add) have pre-ordered early and they are going to get their PS2s on November 24 and no more will be allocated before Christmas due to stock shortages, as I hear, same as in the states. I find it highly unlikely that high street chains would have any pre-christmas stock left- they are probably trying to shirt the remainder of their forms, because afterwards they can then go on general sale to the public, which is not liklely until May at the earliest next year.
