... I got the PS2 version today. The first mission, was the Omaha beach landing. Despite being very similar to the original PC version, I was expecting something slightly different. It looked slightly different, and the situation was slightly different and it proved to be slightly different. Now don't get me wrong, it was still a good level, but after playing the PC version, I couldn't help but feel that the PS2 owners, who hadn't played the masterpiece that is Medal of Honor Allied Assault, were being somehow let down. Maybe it was the fact, I had too much of a high expectancy, or maybe the PC is the home of the first person shooter and as a result I did not feel comfortable with how this game played... I don't know.
You see the great thing about the Omaha beach level in Medal of Honor allied assault, was the cinematic feel. It was the feeling out your life being only slightly in your control, with the scary possibility of leaping out from behind one of those anti-tank mines that littered the beach and literally running for your life towards the next whilst bullets whizzed past you. In this game, I felt quite safe coming out from behind the anti tank mine. I tried it in normal and easy, yet in each situation, despite a blazing machine gun in front of me, I could easily pick of those enemies in the bunker with quite a lot of time... I stood out infront of enemy fire crouched down with the Garand, and I took several seconds focusing in one the machine gun. Each explosion was irritatingly effecting my aim, but eventually it was focused and I shot, with no graze, not even a bruise on my arm. I then got the feeling I was invincible, and did two laps of the beach running, only suffering a slight decrease in my health. Hey! I even went and helped some other four soldiers that were apparently stuck in a position they couldn't get out of. I went over, shot at the bunkers and they decided it was safe for some reason and ran to the shingle. I meanwhile danced merrily on the beach.
Don't get me wrong, the games not bad so far. Firstly this is only one engine, secondly the game engine is very good, and very realistic, especially the slow loading times... however in this version of this fantastic war series the atmosphere wasn't there to the degree it should have been. Having done Medal of Honor Allied Assault back in January, about 5 months ago, I expected more from this version. The same stuff maybe, with extra atmosphere. I have to say, entering the level got my expectations up to a high with a ship getting rattled with gunfire from an aeroplane flying overhead and then violently exploded, and when we jumped off the boat into the depths of the water, it was very Saving Private Ryan. Then the continuous circling of planes overhead really gave the impression of war. However, there was less atmosphere with my fellow soldiers. They just ran to the shingle. There was one medic healing another soldier, but that was about it. There was no guy feeling nauseous... hardly any people were interacting as much in the PC version. Some were shouting out to me, but not shouting out among each other as in the PC version.
This version may be as good to play as the PC version, Allied Assault and I'm sure people who have never played Allied Assault will love this game. It's a unique experience for many, and still of the excellent quality of the first new wave of these games to appear. However, I just don't think this has replicated the beach landing scene of Allied Assault to the fullest extent it should have. I strongly recommend to those that have the PS2 versions, that they don't get the impression that they have the PS2 version and therefore don't need to play the PC version. These two games are very similar.... but very different. Just thought I'd say this, make my feelings clear about Frontlines. Although disappointed with the start, I'll still be playing it. You have got to love Medal of Honor after all...

Okey doke.
*loud gun shot*
[Posh Kid hits the floor with a thud]
Everywhere I look on these forums it's MOH this, MOH that, but the worst thing is, I haven't got it!
Somebody shoot me...quick!
UI haven't played the PC version, so I can't speculate, but for a first time player on the Amoha beach - no screenshots, no clips, nada, I was absolutely blown away.
Sometimes literally.
