And I also reckon that you're instant reaction to this was either "WHAT!!????" if you're at school yourself, or "I agree, listen to that old geezer." if the days of your education are lost in the past also.
For one reason or another, those days and years spent rotting in a stuffy classroom while your head begins to over-flow with a load of useless old junk, those are the best times of your life.
Even if you don't see it, it's true - but you probably won't realise it untill they've faded away into the past as plain and simple memories.
So why exactly are these days so good???
Surely life's much better when you're older, and making a living for yourself, at a time when you're living on your own, and making loads of money for no-one but yourself?
That's the way many people see it - mainly younger people.
But once they get to that age when they're 'free' and 'ready to get on with their life', they realise that it's not always as good as it used to be. Back in the days when everything was done for them...
It's true though, when you're a kid, you've go nothing to do but have fun!
You don't have to work to get money as your mum and dad will give you a certain amount to spend on simple things like sweets and magazines, once every week or so. And if they wanted something a bit more on the pricey side of things, then all they had to do was either ask really nicely, or save up for a while a do something a little extra like washing the car for an extra £1 or so. And don't forget the Tooth Fairy! For every tooth the little tykes put under there pillow, something round and shiny would appear there in the morning! And what about Father Christmas (aka. Santa Claus)! If kids ask nicely enough, then they're parents will ask Santa to 'buy it for them' and deliver it on-time in the night of Christmas Eve.
But the only thing he can never seem to deliver is a horse or pony!
Kids have got it made! Always have done, always will do.
You don't see grown men and women running upto their OAP parents with huge lists of all the big and special things they'll want for Christmas for several reasons. Mainly because they'll just get told to "GROW UP!!" and run-off in a sulk.
The only way an adult can get money is to work for it, slaving away for hours on end - much tougher than simply washing down a litte Fiesta with a hose pipe and a bucket of soapy water!
And there's nothing extra to be earnt for them either. All their teeth have come and gone, and despite how many tickets and lines they buy, they're never gunna win more than a tenner on the National Lottery!!
The world of an adult is full of worries!
Unlike the mind of a child, bright and optimistic.
Children around the world may feel that they're getting it just as bad with a few hours of English, French and Maths, but they won't realise how good they had it untill they enter an office for the first and final time.
And another thing is homework - work you have to do at home.
You'll be very unlucky if you get given anything more than revision to do before the age of 12! And with money in their pocket, no bills to pay, and a load of friends and people they've met at school, those late-afternoon and evening hours could easily be spent by kids having the time of their lives!!
Ask anyone and they'll say that they wish they were young again.
They'd be more than happy to simply forget about all they've worked hard for and earnt truly, just to be a kid again, at a time when life was simple and fun, where no worries or financial debts were lurking around every corner.
There is something to be learnt from all this:
"School days ARE the best days of your life!
Enjoy them while they last, and don't waste a second of them!"
Believe me when i'll say "you'll miss 'em when you've grown-up!"
It was great to have no homework and no real worries or anything though.
It's just a shame that i've only really realised how great it was now, when I thought back then that it would be so much better when you're older.
TV and stuff used to be so much better when I was younger too!
