"A woman raped", was the headline. I thought, just another one, as I read on, it stated that the woman not only was 71 years old, which totally put me off reading the story further, but she was terminally ill with cancer, and she was raped IN the hospital wich has the best security in England.
This to me is so sickening and rage filling that I really do wonder what kind of society I live in. And I am disgusted that people who do this can live with themselves.
That said, there could be a possibilit that this rape ever took place. It took months to report it. The case would have been solved had she reported it straight away. She's an old woman who could have dreamt it. No joke. These things can happen. Although a sexual attack on elderly women is rare and has happened many times before - the thing that baffles me is that why did she not report it right away? Wait, I'll just check the paper...

Ah, tests proved it was true. The reason she didn't report it was because she was in shock for 4 weeks. She told a member of staff just after she had been raped but apparently he member of staff said, 'go back to bed, you silly old woman!', or something along those lines. Apparently, the hospital she was in has a large psychiatric department. The police think it was probably a patient who was responsible. Perhaps the reason why she may have not told anyone straight away is because people may have reacted in the way as that nurse did? She has got cancer for heavens sakes, she's going through hell-on-earth as it is, and this happens.

> What kind of sick freak would rape a pensioner?
When I read that, I thought it said prisoner, and I had planned a smart-***e....
Ah, nuts. Maybe it's for the best.....
> I heard it on the news, actually. What I just can't understand is why
> someone would WANT to rape an old woman, when it's hard enough to
> understand why anyone wouldn't want to rape anyone else.
I was thinking the same, apart from the latter. In many cases, its obvious why someone is rape, because someone of the opposite sex knows they can't have them, so does it anyway, in the form of rape, unwilling to the user, unless you're referring to a complicated 'Tess of the D'aubrevilles' scenario here, but I don't wanna go into that right now...
What kind of sick freak would rape a pensioner? Let alone one with cancer for christ's sake...
