...yep, I've become addicted to Super Monkey Ball!

I've had this game for four weeks now. When I first got it I didn't think it was all that too be honest. The floors were good but once I lost all my lives I couldn't really be bothered to go and try them again, most of the time they just left my feeling very frustrated. The party games were hardly entertaining and after finally getting 2500 play points, Monkey Billiards was a bit of a let down as well.

I hadn't played it for two weeks when...

...I suddenly had the urge to play it yesterday, now I'm hooked. The secret? Music! I find the music in Monkey Ball terrible, absolutly dire! (except the start up music) And when in the process of watching the reply of my Monkey hurtle of the floor for the 71st time, it just made me hate the game even more. But yesterday I had turned the sound off and was playing one of my favourite CD's. This time I was enjoying myself, guiding my Monkey around the floors, singing along to some cool songs, it was fun! And when my Monkey had perished, I carried on! and I played it some more, and some more, and some more! In that one evening I unlocked the other two mini games, completed begginers + extra stages without losing a life (hurrah! ;D), completed Advanced mode, managed to get past floor 7 on expert and reached tht last floor of advanced without using a continue (unfortunatly I lost it there so I didn't get the extra stages).

So there we have it, playing music you like drastically lowers frustration levels and increases enjoyment, making Monkey ball (at last) a thoroughly enjoyable and addictive game.

Here I've researched the affect of playing different music when playing other games:

Pikmin: Noooo! Keep the game music, it's perfect and enhances the expirence.
Rogue Leader: Yes! Once your familiar with a level and know exactly what you have to do and when, play your own music, it will improve your shooting (no really!).
WaveRace: No, not really, I find the game music fits each individual race very well and gets you going. I also like the constant talking of your crew person as it makes it seem so much more real.
Luigi's Mansion: No way. Although the game doens't have music as such I cant imagine not playing with the game sounds. The humming and whistling of Luigi improves the game as so the other weird noises you hear.
Super Smash Bros: A matter of preferance, I haven't found any difference in enjoyment or success rate.
THPS3: Again, a matter of preferance, esspecially seeing as the game music is just a load or rock/rap type music anyway. Peronally I find the vast majority of songs on it to be crap, I only have four left turned on (Blitzgriek (sp?) Pop, Ace of Spades, Destroying the world and Pulse), so must of the time I play my own music. Althogh I did find increased success rate when Blitzgriek Pop ws playing..

Well, there you have it, feel free to add your own ideas.

I don't often listen to music when playing on my Gamecube but I do when watching football on ITV! I hate the commentry on there, oh god does it suck, they end up talking about something totally different! I think playng music in action and RPG games would suck because you want to hear the sound. Games like Super Monkey Ball fit in nicely, I hate the noise the monkey does when he/she falls off; not that I fall of much :P.
Anyways nice suggestios for the games but I listen to heavy rock and metal as you can tell by my name so I don't think it would fit too well :)

I found that in THPS3, the fast songs that I enjoyed and which had a good baseline improved my score drastically. This was the same in THPS2, and I enjoyed that game immensly when the right track is playing.

I got quite bored of SMB after almost completeing expert mode. It is good, but I just never feel like I want to play it. I have to force myself, which is not good, but I find that after a while I do start to enjoy it.

I wonder if in THPS4, they will have to loop all teh songs, now that the time limit is gone. If they do, then they will have to put a lot of songs in there, so that it doesn't get repetetive.
