Just wondering if any of your own internet projects have brought any cash in? What kind of advertising rates are considered competitive?

It's just because I need more wonga to justify keeping my own website which only manages btwn £50-100 a month (on sales commissions).

Any suggestions?

funkygamer, here's the http

www.ukhip-hop.com

The sales revenue comes from the shop section, and I run various promotions on the front page... but most of the stuff I do sell isn't directly related to the website. It's just cos I get a fair bit of traffic, and by sheer luck some of them choose to buy CDs and DVDs from my site (thanks to the predictable domain name and influential friends bigging it up at gigs!)

Could you post your URL please, £50-100 per month isn't too bad really! I'd like to see how you do it. Cheers.

To make money from banner adverts, you really have to prove that you are getting a lot of traffic, I don't know how much it would help if you could prove your area was highly niche... for instance videogames. DoubleClick is the market leader in the banner advert area, check out http://www.doubleclick.co.uk for more information.

My website, funkygamer.com, is affiliated with amazon and blackstar, I get about 10% commision for stuff sold once somebody buys something from their site after clicking through from mine. The blackstar deal is different though, because after someone has gone through your site, signed up to blackstar and bought something, you get something for each and every time they buy something after that, regardless of whether or not they go through your site to get it. Not a bad deal, but this only works if the person is not already signed up to blackstar.

I have made about $3 so far, after about 12 months! But I don't really push the adverts that much, I'm not trying to make money. I have a videogames book section, which links all the books I review back to amazon, and a videogames movies section which links all the videos reviewed back to blackstar, these are sections that I would have anyway, and it's only a bonus if somebody buys something through them.

I would say don't go into an affiliate scheme expecting to make a lot of money unless you are really going to push the products hard, and you get a lot of visitors.

You'd only likely make money from only displaying Adverts if you were to sell the space yourself, like pennyclick.co.uk (SR's Banner Area) I don't think any site offers comission for just displaying an Advert, well actually I lie, bu I think these sites only operate with other Commercial sites.

I've used amazon.co.uk with their commision scheme, and made a few bob, £70 over a year and a half, for a site with absolutly no content, lol http://www.haignet.co.uk used to have a load of console cheat pages, all with 'Coming Soon' on them, lol. £70, not bad for a crappy Web site, wouldn't you agree?

I was considering some of these affiliate programs.

Has anyone here actually ever made any kind of reasonable amount of money off of any of them?

Also, most offer commission if someone clicks through from your site and actually BUYS something. Are there any decent one that pay for DISPLAY? - i.e. you onlyh have to show their banner, and it doesn't matter if people buy or not.

My site has an affiliation with www.edream.co.uk. They pay 20% commission on all software sales. My site isn't finished yet, but I reckon that's just about the best commission you'll find on the net. www.123-reg.co.uk pays 10% on domain sales.
