Yup, its me, a convicted Nintendo lover, discussing my second area of games for once - PCs.

Sitting in front of me is PC Gamers recent Doom 3 preview. Looks lurvly, all the old style of Doom (zombies, Mars, hell etc) and all that, with supposed lovely sounds and obviously superb graphics......

........and Unreal 2? Looks utterly amazing too - not quite as good, but a very different kettle of fish.....less old school, more expansive, less scary.

I know I prefer Dooms all out hellish/demonic connotatios, as it is so in your face, all out evil, but i do prefer the look of Unreal 2s open expanses, and communictaion with other creatures, other than plasma shots at their heads.........so what do you think, expansive, sci-fi, slightly less good looking shooter, or old-school, hideously violent and amazing looking, back to the classic method of chucking nasty demons at you, and putting you in the worst place in the world (or rather the underworld)?

I prefer, at this point, Unreal 2, but Doom was so cool because it was so all-out evil and nasty.............? Your views please.

I think they both look and souns like great games, and should hopefully be giving them both a try when they are released. At this point though, I would say Unreal 2 is my favourite, mainly because it's closer to being finished than doom 3 which is still in early development.

I think the real battle will begin when when quake 4 is revealed, as I for one will like to see how the two games will compare to each other, both being from id an all.

I'm sure it'll be a great game but Doom 3 really just isn't Doom, i've seen screenshots and it looks more like a Halflife sequel. It's only a true Doom sequel if it keeps the simpleness of the gameplay.

Just get them both, you know you want to!

I honestly haven't seen anything on Doom III, but I trust it will rock. Unreal 2 looks muchos sweet though! Definately a must buy.

You also know that Quake IV is a guaranteed must buy too, although I haven't seen anything on this either (I'm not really looking for information on them, that's why, I'll check them out when they're released).

Also, while we're on the subject of killer PC FPS's, does anyone know if the forthcoming Halo will feature online play? I really hope it does!

i heard that doom 3 would not be multi-player, which would basically make it incomparible to unreal 2, seeing as both would have a very different feel, i.e. doom 3 would 'supposedly' be more be story driven.

Unreal 2 doesn't have multiplayer support either, it has Unreal Tournement 2003 for that.

UT2003 is looking good, but we may be in for a longer wait than expected. Apparantly it's been delayed til next month.
