"Gladiator"

Has anyone seen Gladiator? This will be released on DVD in a couple of weeks and I want to buy it, but as I havent seen it yet I would like to hear peoples comments/thoughts about it. I know it was given rave reviews, but so was The Blair Witch 2 and what a pile of tripe that turned out to be!

This film is three hours long, and they completely changed it from the tv show, and to think I was looking forward to seeing all of my favourite gladiators on the big screen....

Gladiator is great. It has an excellent plot, lots of action and some mind-blowing special effects. It is about this guy (Maximus) who is high up in the ranks in the roman army. He performs outstandingly in a battle, so the dying emporer announces him as his succesor instead of his son. The Emporer's son is furios and send his army to kill maximus' family. When Maximus returns home, he finds his family dead, and is captured to become a slave. He is then trained to be a gladiator (hense the name). After that, the plot takes some supprising turns that will shock you. I hope i didn't give too much away.
It is deffinatly worth the £20 for the DVD, and make sure you have some good speakers to get the full advantage of sound. I would give it 5 stars, and it is the second best film I have ever seen (the best is the matrix).
