This selection of entertaining-morcels can be enjoyed over the length over an entire evening, and is best accompanied by a crate of Cotes-du-Rhone, or perhaps a flagon of chilled Kia Ora (but please do remember, it is far too orangey for consumption by crows :)
THE APPETISER
Taking the place of miniature quiches and stuffed mushrooms, a single bout of a classic One-on-One beat' em up makes a delicious starter (perhaps VF4, DOA3 or SF2). Although over in a matter of seconds, it's a great gaming-snackette to stir the competitive juices.
HORS D'OEUVRES
Just having worked up an appetite, it's time to tempt your joypads with a brief, but sensuous, introduction the the ensuing game-dishes. Instead of brioche with caviar, serve just one quick kill frenzy on GTA3, and you and your guests must move on... to leave plenty of room for the next courses.
STARTER
Now it's time to start really tucking in. An extended period (eg 15 or 20 minute) match on your favourite sports game. Everyone loves a good game of Pro Evo, NBA Street or Virtua Tennis... you can't go far wrong. Sporting fun as a starter is as popular as Parma ham and melon.
FISH DISH
You may begin to feel full at his point, and with 4 more courses to go, you'll need a light fragrant game dish. Nothing too intense or gamey, so an hour or so of graphical treats may be a good option. Perhaps a fillet of FFX or MGS2, with cut-scenes-a-plenty. Or goujons of Ico or Ecco, or an equally gentle game, could make nice alternatives.
ENTREE
Aha! The Piece de resistance... the real meat of the menu. For this you need your newest, biggest, baddest, coolest game of the moment: something to really get you teeth stuck into. Something you haven't quite managed before. Maybe Halo or MOH: Frontline right to the end, maybe a GT3 2 hour endurance race... or take a survival horror game and thrash it to the finish. I guess the main course will always be down to the chef's taste. But when you've finally finished it, you'll still have to cram in a little more. Only 3 more dishes to go.
CHEESEBOARD
Ah time for some stupidity. Some nice cheesy games. It's quite normal for guests to pass on this course, so don't be offended if the joypad comes straight back round to you. But if you make several silly suggestions, people might have a little sample of a couple. A good cheesy-game board could consist of: Mr Moskeeto, Mad Maestro, Britney's Dancebeat, Super Monkey Ball etc, anything of that ilk.
DESSERTS
Despite the full-gaming bellies, everyone loves a dessert. Time to pull out the all time favourites on a trolley. A bit of Mario Kart? a bit of Street Fighter 2? a bit of F-Zero? Whatever you choose, you know the gaming-indigestion will kick in sometime soon.
COFFEE & PETIT-FOURS, BRANDY & CIGARS
The finishing touch to the menu. If you can scoff anything more, maybe a game of Tetris will do ya nicely. Withdraw from the game-dining room and relax. The guests may have a couple more goes on a Gameboy, and will then retire for the evening.
